An overnight visitor gives Sylvie pause, and a conversation with a friend gives her a realisation. A picnic brings good news for someone, but a fire goes wrong.

In the next couple of weeks, Sylvie had decided to throw in the towel at tinder. Instead she hung out at Molly's, and she, Stella, and Emily went on a few girls nights out. She'd seen Matt go on a few dates. None of them had lasted longer than one date, but she and Kelly waved him off with good luck every time he left. This date night they were on shift the next morning, so she went to bed early.

Instead of the restful nights sleep she'd expected, she woke to sounds coming from one of the other bedrooms. She went to throw a book at Kelly's wall, before she realised it wasn't coming from Kelly's room. It was coming from Matt's. Instead she put her headphones back on, and tried to ignore what was going on.

When she left her room the next morning, Matt was making breakfast. She smiled at him, pulling her hoodie on. "Have a good night?"

"Yeah, it was good. We'll see each other again, for sure." Kelly arrived out cutting off conversation, and Matt started plating up their food. They did their usual carpool to work, but Sylvie was quiet the entire time, her mind fixated on Matt bringing someone home.

Why was she like this? It was Matt, her friend. She'd helped him set up his dating profile, why was she jealous of him bringing someone home? It had to be because she hadn't gotten any matches, right? It kept going around her head until she and Emily got their first call of the day.

They got into the ambo and Sylvie drove, her and Emily quiet. When they arrived they found a woman on the ground with stab wounds to her arms. They patched her up as best they could, inserting IVs and getting a mask on her before getting her into the rig. Sylvie drove to Med, passing her off to the ER docs there. Once they were on the way back to the house, Emily opened her mouth.

"You ok? You seem off today." It was just a few words, but Sylvie needed to get out her feelings to someone.

"I think so? I'm just tired. Casey had a date last night and he brought her home, and I woke up to them. I've had two dates that I've been stood up on from tinder, and I'm just fed up of it." She let it out in a whoosh of air, and Emily just laughed.

"Girl, we can fix this! Let's go out tomorrow night. We can go to a bar, relax, and see if you meet someone. It'll be fine." Emily's smile was infectious, so Sylvie agreed that once they finished shift they would.

By the time Sylvie was getting ready to go out, she kind of regretted it. Emily had come over with a bottle of wine to enjoy while they got ready to leave. She pulled on an off the shoulder floral dress, receiving a cheer from her friend. A pair of strappy heels and some chunky earrings finished her look. Kelly gave a wolf whistle as they came into the living room.

"Looking good, girls! If you need a ride home send us a text, ok? Stay safe." Sylvie kissed his cheek as they left, walking out the door to the waiting Uber.

The bar was dim, and they managed to grab a table near the middle of the floor. There was a decent crowd for the Saturday night, and they people watched for a while.

"Right, what do you want in a guy? We need to know so we know who you want to date."

Sylvie laughed, taking a sip of her vodka tonic. "I have no idea. Taller than me, a good heart? I want someone who doesn't want to move too quickly. And gets what our shifts are like. So I'm down to first responders only, I guess." She looked at her partner's knowing gaze. "What?"

"You basically just described your housemate, you know."

"Kelly and Stella are disgustingly in love! No way, he's not like that."
