Welcome to the Jungle

We spent the rest of the day running around town going to different stores to prepare for tonight. We got everything from stakes to garlic cloves, apparently vampires are part of D&D so it looks like I called the right person for help.

Dustin and I decided to set up base in my living room as it was the biggest room in the house. We covered all doorways with garlic and a crucifix.

"Steve you got everything ready in there?"

"Yeah I think so." I finished lining up the extra stakes on the coffee table in the living room. The rest were hidden in around the room or in the holsters that Henderson and I had on.

Dustin walks back into the living room and looks behind him "Okay the sun's going down, we should be good."

I run a hand through my hair and plop down on the couch "Thank you for helping me Henderson, I don't think I could have gotten this all done without you."

"Don't thank me yet, we still have to make sure this all works."

I shoot up from my place on the couch "You mean you don't know if any of this will actually keep him out or not?!"

Dustin shrugs "I mean it's not like I've ever met an actual vampire. This is just general horror movie and D&D knowledge."

"Oh my god, oh my god. I'm gonna die. We're all doomed."

"Steve calm down we can fight if we have to."

"Harrington you didn't tell me you were having a party." That raspy voice came from behind me and made my blood run cold. He was here.

Dustin's eyes widened and he slowly began to back up.

"Henderson, my old pal, is that you?" Eddie steps out from behind me and begins walking towards him.

Dustin keeps backing up until his back hits the wall "Hey Eddie, we're all buddies here. I'm sure we can have a nice calm discussion about this and no one has to get hurt."

"Awe well that does sound nice, catching up with my friends and all but my stomachs growling like theirs no tomorrow Henderson. A man's got to eat. You understand, don't you?"

I carefully reach down and grab the stake from my holster and run towards Eddie, closing my eyes as the sharp wood makes contact with his back and he lets out a ear piercing screech.

I open my eyes and see him reach behind him and yank the stake out, tossing it to the ground. He slowly turns towards me. "That hurt Steve."

"It was meant to Eddie. I'm not going to let you hurt him."

A wicked smirk began to creep onto Eddie's face "Fine, I'll just take another bite out of you." He begins taking quick strides towards me but Dustin jumps on his back.

"Dustin no!"

"Don't /worry Steve I got him! I got him!"

Eddie flings him off of his back and into the corner. I try to run forward as Dustin looses consciousness but Eddie catches me.

"Not so fast big boy."

I turn my face to look at him "Fine, take my blood, just please don't hurt anyone else."

"Steve how heroic of you to offer yourself, but you don't have nearly enough blood for me to never feed again."

"Okay then leave Henderson alone. Promise me that you won't hurt him and then you can have me."

"Promise. Cross my heart, hope to die." He gave me a smirk.

Part of me knew that he was lying to me but the other part wanted to believe that it was still Eddie somewhere in there and not this evil creature. I slowly walked towards the couch and sat down. Eddie sat down next to me and I take a breath before tilting my head to the side.

He's on my neck in an instant and my skin burns as he digs his teeth into it. It doesn't take long before I feel myself slipping. I try to stay awake as long as I can but it's no use, he's won.

I wonder if death is supposed to feel like being in an earthquake or if it's just my personal experience.

"Steve? Steve buddy?"

Henderson? Did he die too?

"Oh my god I killed him. I can't believe I killed him." I knew that voice from somewhere.

"Shut up for a second." There is silence for a moment "Thank god, he's still alive."

"Henderson when did you die?..." I mumble.

"Steve! Hey buddy, can you open your eyes?"

I slowly open my eyes and see Dustin hovering over me. A wave of pain comes shooting through my neck and I wince.

"Here let me help you sit up."

Carefully I sit up, wobbling a bit so he leans me back against the couch. I look around and notice that it's still dark outside and I frown. I turn back to him but before I can speak I glance up and see Eddie leaning against the wall watching me with a, dare I say, worried expression. I tilt my head as I stare at him.

"Why is he not killing and why does he look not like a demon?"

"Turns out if he drinks some blood it turns him back to his normal self."

I raise my eyebrow and look between him and Eddie "I don't know.."

"It's true, he hasn't tried to kill me or anything. I think as long as he stays fed he will be normal."

I rub the side of my head, feeling a headache coming on "Okay but how the hell are we supposed to feed him Henderson? In case you forgot, he drinks blood, like from humans."

"Well maybe we can borrow from a blood bank or something?"

"Damnit  Henderson we can't just steal blood."

He is quiet for a couple of minutes, lost in thought no doubt on how he could make this impossible situation work.

"I've got it! We can just rotate giving him blood. No stealing or excessive blood loss."

"I'd like to say that I feel like it's excessive blood loss as I have lost an excessive amount of blood. Are you out of your mind?"

He throws his arms up into the air "Well Steve it's better than him running around trying to murder us, and I don't see you whipping out any brilliant ideas."

Damn he got me there. "Fine we can try it out but since I've lost a lot of blood in the past 48 hours, I'd say it's your turn to give some blood."

He begins to look a little nervous "What's wrong? This was your brilliant idea after all Henderson, don't tell me you're regretting it now."

He sits up straight and shakes his head "Of course not. I'll need to get some supplies for us to draw blood with. It'd be much safer than just letting him drink straight from us in case he's feeling extra hungry."

"Fine alright just go get the stuff."

Dustin nods and stands "It should probably only take an hour or two." He looks over at Eddie "Try not to kill him while I'm gone."

I stand quickly and grab onto the side of the couch to keep my balance "Wait, you can't just leave him here with me."

"Steve the sun is going to come up in less than an hour, it's this or toasted Eddie."

"I think I know which one I'd prefer."

"It's just a couple of hours and if he gets hungry maybe a small animal will hold him over until I get back."

I scoff "Yeah, maybe."

"I'll be back in awhile, I'm sure it'll be fine." He says as he leaves.

I sigh and look over to Eddie who is looking around the room. Just great. I'm sure everything will be fine. I totally won't get eaten.
