NO BODY, NO CRIME

When you ask kids who they want to become in the future they're not afraid to give you all various types of answers, from ambitious and sweet ones like doctor or teacher to unrealistic and sometimes totally out of this world ones like ballerina, astronaut or even Santa Claus' wife. As an older brother to the whole gang of little Kangs Taehyun know it first handed (he's also aware that those wishes or dreams are quickly and brutally verified by the reality - a bitch that'll pull you back to the ground, succesfully putting in your place, been there, done that too).
And one of the most popular answers that kids say back is the policeman. Honestly Taehyun isn't really suprise by that - it's the closest they can get to be real-life superheroes, and it's a smart choice, proving you're not delusional enough to belive that you can grow up to be professional vigilante or other fucking Batman and Robin. Yeah, kids that wants to become policemans to help people, being the guardians of law, keepers of justice and all other idealistic shit are kinda scoring points in Taehyun eyes.
But he has no fucking idea what Choi Soobin, the most indolent, sleazy and slothful cop around was even thinking when he chose this job.
It's not like all the training and going through police academy was an easy thing to do, so it still amazes Taehyun how the guy like Soobin, who always seem to cut corners and do anything in his power just to not strain himself, somehow graduated from it. Like, aren't there fit tests to pass or particular physical abilities requires? That's unsolved mystery for now, cause no one in Gongjin has ever seen Soobin run, more specifically they rarely see him moving at all. It's no secret that he prefres staying in at little police station, pretending that he's doing some kind of important paper work, the only time you can spot him outside is when he's off to patrol neighbourhood.
That's if you can call sitting inside the police car or on it's hood while stuffing yourself with bunch of donuts a patrol duty.
And usually Taehyun doesn't spare Soobin a second glance, the only times that force them to pass each other by are those chilling moments at Yeonjun's bakery, when one is listening to all the gossips his friend gather around since their last hang out and the other is just a casual customer (and sadly not so casual crush of Yeonjun). It's not that in Gongjin anything ever happens, small town mostly not requiring serious interventions, so Soobin as the only cop around is not benefitial but not harmfull either. But today, as Taehyun is making his first ever official complain, he learns in the hard way that all the stories about unbothered and uncooperative local police are not exaggereated in the slightest
"He's walking his dog without any leash. Basically lets the dog run around free, unsupervised. You can't let dogs loose in public places!" He tries to explan for the hundert time, but Soobin just keep chewing on his donut, licking the icing of his fingers in a carefull way definitely more important to him that whatever Taehyun is saying.
"Yeah? I haven't seen them."
"Well I'm here to report you that I've seen them, you just have to do something about it!" Taehyun with the last string of his patience and will pushed to the back of his mind the urge of telling Soobin off, that he may see more wrongdoing if he would for once actually patrol the streets, not sit in his car parked in exactly same place every day.
"I'm doing a serious police job Taehyun. I can't jump into conclusions, carry out intervention not based on evidence."
"I'm the evidence! I can give you... testimony or whatever you like that I've seen this man walking his dog without a proper leash. The man, tall, dark haired, I know he's name is Beomgyu and he lives in the abandon house on the hill." At this point Taehyun is just desperate for Soobin to act in any way, he's already wasted so much time on explaining this over and over again, why is the other being so difficult? But if he thinks he can discourage Taehyun by acting like that, he's far from the truth.
