10 years later
𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐀𝐌𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐒, on a concrete platform with the ocean at its edge and several beach houses behind her. She could see the shiny wet rocks with the occasional crab crawling on it below her.
Out in the distance she saw a mini island with a large concrete structure that looked abandoned. She was wearing a black swim-suit and her surfboard in her left hand. She saw the waves crashing against the shore and felt the adrenaline pumping in her body.
Amelie climbed down and let her body perform a controlled landing on the rocks. As she fell, she let the surfboard enter the water. She crawled off the rocks and then placed her body on the surfboard and started swimming out away from the rocky shoreline.
As Amelie started swimming, she felt the hot sun beating down on her exposed body parts. At that moment, she realized something really important; she was going to get a really bad tan line. The girl started to regret wearing the black bikini.
All of a sudden, the wind started to pick up and then the water started to become really choppy. Out in the distance, she saw a large wave picking up. She started to see the crest of the wave foaming up as she started to approach it.
Amelie prepared herself to ride this wave, despite having surfed her whole life, she felt the same thrill she did as her first wave.
Slowly and steadily, she put both feet on the board and lifted herself into a standing position.
As the wave curled around her, she closed her eyes for a mere second while inhaling the smell of Cousins beach.
Surfing in the ocean was one of the only ways she felt connected to her mother. To feel closer to her mother, she learned surfing. Sometimes Amelie wished she didn't take the early mornings her mom tried teaching her to surf for granted.
Since Charlotte's death that night of the accident, Amelie swore to never show weakness again. She was more than certain that no one would love her more than her mother.
Charlotte's favorite place on earth was Cousin's, hence why she was buried here. The pain being too much, Amelie hasn't visited her grave since her funeral. But always made sure there were flowers delivered to her grave weekly.
Since that year, Amelie never came back to Cousins- that is until this summer. Her dad had a client in Cousins this summer and decided that they can't avoid the place forever. Ryan wasn't a horrible man, but he absent most of Amelie's life, they never had the bond she did with her mother.
Her caretaker, Eleanor (Lena), was the closest the girl had to a parental figure. Back at home, Lena would not only take care of household duties, but Amelie too. Lena was an older woman in her late sixties.
Amelie found herself grateful for the older woman. Even more grateful that she agreed to accompany Amelie in the large house while her dad was out working.
The White's used to own two pieces of property in Cousins. A cottage and a luxurious beach house. Charlotte preferred the cottage due to its homely vibe, so they never used the beach house. But a few years after Charlotte's death, Ryan sold the cottage since he saw no use of it.
The beach house, however, remain unused for almost 10 years. It was renovated back into its luxurious state right before the family's arrival. Sometimes, leaving the neighbors curious of who lived there.
As the wave died down, the girl smoothly landed back on shore. Deciding that she was done for the day, Amelie tucked the surfboard under her arm while walking across the sand to get back to the beach house. She closed her eyes for a few seconds while walking, enjoying the ocean breeze.
It had been a blissful morning until she tripped over something. She tripped over a a medium sized rock that was half buried under the sand. Luckily she landed on her knees and hands rather than face flat. Meanwhile, her board landed on top of a man.
Groaning at the impact of her fall, she turned around and sat up to quickly grab her board. Unfortunately for her, he grabbed it first and threw it to the side.
"what the fuck, watch where you're going-" he immediately cut himself off when he turned his head to the side.
Hazel.
Those hazel eyes he could never forget. It's almost as if he was getting deja vu.
"Shelly?"
Amelie locked eyes with him like all those years ago. She took in a shaky breath before whispering "no way"
The boy with blue eyes used this moment to regain his composure and confidence. "we need to stop meeting like this" he lightly smirked with amusement. While her gaze travelled to the cigarette in his hand, his eyes quickly flickered over her body, trying to restrain himself.
This pulled the girl out of her thoughts before she quickly replied "or maybe you need to watch where you're going" mimicking his voice all those years ago.
"yeah you should consider using these things called eyes. Maybe it'll help you stop being so clumsy, Shelly. Or shall I say, Clumsy." he chuckled at his new nickname for her
she jokingly gasped dramatically "I am not clumsy-" a call ringing from his phone cut her off.
He reluctantly picked up his phone, not wanting the girl to leave just yet. Not that he'd ever admit it.
Amelie took this as an opportunity to get up and leave. He watched in light disappointment as she walked away.
As her figure slowly disappeared Conrad wondered when he would see her again.
But then the boy remembered,
I still don't know her name.

Authors Note:
and so they meet again
the prologue and first chapter was supposed to be more of a background and their first interactions. I promise it'll get WAY more interesting in the next chapter (hopefully). This was a bit of a shorter chapter, but I kinda wanted a chapter only for this interaction.
I also thought it's funny how they always meet by accident.
maybe it's fate ;) #soulmates
important question though,
Team Conrad
or
Team Jeremiah
Anyways, I hope this chapter was somewhat decent <3
