Ch 9: Burning

Well since that day, things with Ranboo have still been pretty awkward. You trust Freddie not to tell him about what you said but that doesn't stop your paranoia of 'what if'.

Now back to you doing your typical work, working on that EP of yours. It was currently you sitting on your bed with a notebook and guitar since there was a lack of power in your house. Midday blackout really interrupted your plans but you made it work. You had your phone open to the internet so you could still get notifications and messages so you at least you weren't isolated.

You were really in grove of letting your fingers fall where they may on your guitar that you didn't notice the buzz of your phone. Now it wasn't a short buzz like a notification, it was a full on call and some how, you accidentally answered it.

Now deep on your trance, you started to quietly sing a few lyrics you had in your head. "And I have been so hard on myself these days. Finding my escape, I'm trying desperately."

"Y/N!" The caller finally yelled catching your attention.

You looked at your phone wearily and checked the contact. It was Tommy and a video call. "Fuck did I butt dial you? I'm so sorry."

Tommy laughed as you finally picked up the phone so he wasn't staring at the ceiling. "No I was actually calling you. BUT LOOK BITCH! NO MORE BRACES!"

You looked at the toothy grin Tommy gave you and were shocked. "Holy shit that's today? Nooooo I forgot to call you brace face one last time before you got them off."

You both laughed at the mutual teasing and banter. "So what kind of song was that, that I was hearing before I caught your attention?" Tommy asked in that mischievous tone of his.

You felt your cheeks heat up slightly in embarrassment. "It was nothing, just something that popped into my head. There's currently a blackout at my place so I'm going back to old school."

"Well it sounded nice I'll just say. Oh are you joining the karaoke night if you get power back?"

Your puzzled look was a clear sign of confusion. "Who said karaoke night?"

"Tubbo and Ranboo suggested it, it's in the group chat if you bother to check it," Tommy informed you.

"I'll probably join if I get power back. Hell, I'll probably join for a little bit on my phone if it doesn't come back on," you explained, really thinking about it.

The grin on Tommy's face was either him getting used to smiling without braces or actually being excited for that night. You decided to believe in the latter. You said your goodbyes and continued back to song writing.

Now it was the evening and your power has been restored. You ended up finishing the song you started but have kept it untitled for the time being. You were playing some Slime Rancher on your own, enjoying the simple life of harvesting plorts from your various slime combinations.

The distinct sound of Discord alerted you it was time for the karaoke night to begin. You put on a mask since face cam was going to be on, and put in your favourite coloured contacts. You checked the Discord server and saw a few DreamSMP members in it, before joining the call where only 5 people were.

"Oh Eret that's a good choice, I'll put that on after Nikki sings her song," Ranboo said, typing away. Seeing Ranboo and hearing his voice, your tattoo heated up it felt like you were being branded like cattle. "Oh hey MASQ, have you met Nikki and Eret?"

You shook you head and smiled. "Nope but it's nice to meet you 2. I'm MASQ."

Nikki's face lit up seeing you. "Oh hello it's so nice to meet you. I keep hearing so many nice things about you from everyone," she said with a smile.

"Hello MASQ. Lovely to meet you. Love your music by the way," Eret said as he did a bow in the strawberry dress he was wearing.

You noticed the dressed and the way the frills complimented his body type and hair. "Oh thank you and can I say, that dress looks awesome on you."

The sound of someone joining the Discord call pinged and appeared Jack, Tommy and Wilbur. "Hello, hello, hello everyone," Jack said looking at everyone.

We all said hello as Ranboo shared his screen which was a list of people and songs with everyone. "Do you guys have any songs in mind?" He asked in general.

"Jack and I are gonna duet Wilbur's new song," Tommy said with a toothy grin, "Your new boyfriend's an asshole~."

"Ooo, put me down to sing Lavender Bones," Wilbur said. It felt like he said that directly at you which you shook your head to.

Ranboo typed away on the document he had with what felt like a smile. "Have you got anything you wanna sing MASQ or are you waiting for a partner?"

You thought for a moment but couldn't think of anything besides that burning tattoo of yours. "Um, I don't know, I didn't have one planned."

"I'm back now, oh cool more people," Tubbo said, finally undeafening himself. "Where's Freddie, he's first up isn't he?"

"We're still missing a bunch of people Tubbo," Eret reminded him. "Techno and Phil are streaming and Fundy said he'd join."

"Oh wow it's really a party," you said a little surprised. You checked the members list but it didn't really process how that would look in a video call on Discord.

"Yep, not to mention some people said maybe, Tubs," Ranboo piped up. You eyes widened slightly but thankfully Freddie joined and that helped the karaoke night to properly start.

The night went on as more people joined and sang random songs. You met some more of the DreamSMP members. The adults had a few drinks and the children were chugging whatever drinks they had. It was a weird situation where it was a round of Disney songs and the Sleepy Boys Inc had just done Make a Man Out of You.

"You know, if Phil had sung the main part instead of Techno, that'd actually be really sweet," Fundy mentioned as the song finished. Kristin had joined with Phil and provided the Mulan vocals.

"MASQ you're up, any ideas?" Eret asked as others had some small talk.

You thought for a moment until an idea came to your mind. "Technically Jonas Brothers are Disney, so... give me Burning Up."

"Oh I'm joining in on this one," Eret said hearing your response.

Now did you say it cause you wanted to sing old Jonas Brothers, yes but that's was not the only reason. The sweat that had covered on your chest due to the eternal flame that was your tattoo, it was kind of fitting, no? You thought you saw Freddie and Ranboo freeze for a moment when you said your choice but ignored it since Eret was sharing his screen with the karaoke lyrics ready.

You and Eret did the duet and let's say that you're slippin' into lava since it felt like your tattoo managed to magnify the burning heat by at least 3 folds. You noticed that Freddie had sent you a text as you sipped on the water you had. 'Burning up? Little obvious don't you think?'

You rolled your eyes and sat quietly as Fundy had his song pulled up to sing. 'Wdym? I just wanted to sing old JB' you typed back.

You sat through a few more songs before leaving the call. The sound that left your mouth feeling your tattoo rapidly cool down, could definitely be interpreted in the wrong way but you didn't care. You turned off your PC immediately and moved to your bedroom where you flopped on your bed. You checked your phone one last time before letting sleep consume you
