I gasped and held her firm arm with both hands and tried to wrestle myself from her grip. Her strength was monstrous, denying me freedom from death. Her lunatic face was so lively that it made me wonder what level of hatred did my antagonist input in her. This made me pissed so much that I had no choice but to force any means of survival. Before she could even react, I released my right hand and jabbed two of my fingers into her eyes. She screamed and let go of me, with me falling to the ground and gasping for breath.
"You bastard!", she exclaimed and then kicked me so hard I flew ten meters away from her. I bounced off the ground several times before landing back-first to the ground. I grunted and coughed out blood, then opened my eyes to see her leap into the air and coming straight towards me with murderous intent. I quickly rolled over to avoid her devastating punch and got back to my feet. She wasted no time in rushing towards me and throwing her kicks and blows, all of which I either dodged or blocked. I guarded against her last punch which pushed me back and created a gap between us. I was out of breath but was recovering from my wounds thanks to my healing factor. I then looked at her and saw her in a wild, vicious state, staring at me with her injured eyes. Her other senses heightened after I had jabbed my fingers into her eyes, and I knew I was still under her radar.
"Help me!", cried a voice some meters away from us. I looked to my right and saw an injured man buried beneath a rumble. He was bleeding all over and had stretched out his left hand for help. Before I knew what was going on, eight tin-like tentacles flew into the air and assaulted the man, pulling him out from the rumble, restraining him and entering into his mouth, nostrils, and ears. His voice was choked with the series of tentacles in his lungs, which later sucked the very life out of his body. They let go of what was left of him and returned into the back of Ana, whose eyes had not only recovered but her whole body was strengthened as well.
I couldn't help but stare at such a horrible sight. My wife, who had never ever killed before, had shown such monstrosity. She raised her head high, laughed to the top of her lungs, suddenly appeared before me eye to eye at a break-neck speed, and stared into my eyes, catching glimpses of the fear within me.
"Honey dear", she said with an insane look on her face, "What's the matter? Why are your hands shaking?".
I gasped when I realized that they were indeed shaking, shaking to a point where it was almost impossible to get control of them.
"Are you perhaps afraid?", she asked while suddenly appearing at my back. You dare not look at her! Screamed the fear within me. She is not your match! You're going to die here!
She began moving round me while saying, "You know, this is all your fault right? After all, I warned you of the project, but neither you nor your father would listen".
She paused in front of me and showed me her arms, "Look at me. I've now become a product of your failure. You've ruined not only my life, but the lives of everyone on this planet".
She looked to her left and I followed her gaze, seeing people either getting eaten by zombies or turning into them. It was chaotic, with blood flowing into the air and their screams echoing throughout the city.
"What did they do to deserve this Joe?", she asked while still looking at them, "What benefit did you derived from their suffering? People die every day, not knowing why all these things happen. Wasn't it you and your father's dream of creating enhanced soldiers? And what did that bring you? Nothing but nightmares of your failure".
She was right, I thought as I watched the horror. It was all my fault from the beginning.
"Indeed it was", said a familiar voice inside me. I looked up to see the dark me, the ones bearing all my wounds, "Remember that guilt, and remember why you are still alive today. Why you still have breath within you? Because I'm the one making sure that you don't die, and that you finish what you started. Now get a hold of yourself and show her the power we possess!".
