Silence filled the room as I sat opposite Lucy and the masked male. They noticed that I was pale and not focused on them at all. What I had saw was the one within me, not letting go of all the pain I've experience. Even though he was crying, his eyes burned with anger, and the only language he understood was revenge. Why? I thought as I stared at the table separating me from the other. Why is he breeding such a monster within me?
"Joe? Is everything alright?", asked Lucy as she felt uncomfortable with my behavior.
"I-I'm fine", I replied and immediately rubbed my face with my hands. I sat up straight and continued, "I'm fine. You don't have to worry about me".
"Says the guy that looks scared to death", commented the masked male.
"I said I'm fine", I replied with a little agitation. "What do you want?".
They both sighed and looked at each other. The masked male later removed his mask to reveal an old man in his fifties. Bald head, smart looking mustache, small nose and lips, and blue pupils defined his face. I could tell that his suit had weapons hidden within, which was pretty impressive I daresay.
"Name's Peter Jether. Heard about your misfortunes and decided to help. Sorry for selling you off as a slave", said Jack as he stood to offer me a handshake.
I refused to shake him hand, which made the latter sighed and went back to his seat. "Congratulations on your victory Joe, but I'm still surprised you fainted after your glorious win".
I said nothing and just stared at them. They both looked at each other and shuddered, wondering what was going on in my head.
"I did some digging into your info and discovered you've been living in the States and worked in a government facility, where we believe that was the place where the virus originated from. According to my wife here, we believe that it was your father who created the virus. Is that correct?".
I nodded my head in confirmation.
"Then does that mean your father is the reason why humanity is on the verge of extinction?", he asked while fixing accusing eyes at me.
Irritated, I stood up and yelled, "My father is not responsible for the outbreak. Someone sabotaged his plans and is now trying to drive me into insanity!".
I still stood while I had to catch my breath after saying that. Peter just looked at me, not moved or show remorse for me. All I saw was the cold stare of someone who didn't see me of any value.
"I see. Is it the same person who has been haunting you these past weeks?".
Seeing as he didn't cared, I sat back on my seat and replied, "Yes. Same person".
"Know his name?".
"No".
"Know why he wants to torment you?".
"No".
"Know any of his plans?".
"No".
I could see a small hint of irritation on his face as I answered his questions. Hmph! Take that for not taking me seriously, I thought.
"Does he kill everyone around you so as to drag you deeper into your insanity?", he asked.
I paused as I heard that question, but what mainly drew my attention was seeing the deceased standing right behind him, with the person within standing directly behind him and staring at me with a cold expression, along with the rest. I rubbed my eyes and looked again to see no one behind Peter anymore, but still yet, that didn't stopped tears from dripping down from my eyes.
