Just as they thought they were at peace, 'the party' of Hawkins discovers that the Mind Flayer is still creeping within the shadows despite Eleven closing the gate. This time, the Mind Flayer is in need of a vessel, or a host, who happens to be someone that the group is familiar with. Mike and Eleven call it official on their relationship while Benny and Max are still trying to figure their unsaid feelings out for each other.
Max and El become closer while Benny is practically forced to hang out with Mike, Lucas, and Will. Despite their disagreements, the six have to come together to try to figure out what's going on.
Seeing as she is in need of comfort, Benny and Max grow closer than before while trying to stop the Mind Flayer.
