Author's Note: You're married again.
You're cooking in the kitchen when you hear Frank open the door. 'He's finally home,' you think to yourself.
Frank walks in. You walk up to him to kiss him hello, but he walks straight past you.
"I've got something I need to do. I'll be back, sweetheart." Frank says. You stare at him with your mouth open, thinking, 'He better have a good reason for this.'
You hear him walk to the bedroom and close the door.
After a few minutes of wondering if you should check on Frank or not, you turn off the stove and make your way to the bedroom.
You knock on the door. "Frank?"
You listen. He doesn't respond.
You slowly open the door. Frank is sitting on the bed, facing away from you, his hands covering his face.
You walk over and sit next to him on the bed. You put a hand on his shoulder. He lowers his hands and looks at you.
Tears are streaming down his face, and his eyes are all red and puffy. A curl of hair hangs down over his forehead.
You immediately put both your hands on his cheeks and wipe away the tears with your thumbs.
You softly ask, "What's wrong, Frankie?"
Frank breathes shakily and says, "I didn't get the part." More tears fall down his face. "They said because--"
Frank's shaky breathing quickens. He can't get the words out.
"Shhh. Frankie." You take a hand and push the curl of hair off of his face. You whisper, "Calm down, honey. Everything will be alright."
Frank leans his forehead on your shoulder. He grabs your waist and sobs harder. "They... they said..."
You glide your fingers up the back of his neck and through his hair, trying to comfort him.
"Said I... I'm too..."
Frank buries his head into your neck. You can feel his tears dripping onto your skin.
Frank takes a deep breath, nearly gasping for air. "They said I'm too small for the part." Frank continues sobbing into your neck.
You wrap Frank in a tight hug and hold him close. "I can't believe that was their excuse."
Frank nods, his face still buried.
You lean your head against Frank's. "Well, this just means that you have an opportunity to get a better role in another film."
Frank sits up in your arms and looks at you. "I never thought about it that way."
You smile and wipe away some of his tears with your fingers. Frank looks at you as you wipe his tears away. He looks happier than he did when he first walked through the door.
"Feeling better?"
"Yes, much better."
You stand up and take Frank's hands in yours. You pull him off the bed. "Let's go eat dinner."
Frank slips his arm around your waist and kisses your forehead.
You smile, understanding it's his way of saying thank you.
Frank says back, "Let's go eat."
