Angst Again

You're cooking in the kitchen when the phone rings. You walk over and answer it.

"Hello?"

You can hear Frank Sinatra on the other line.

"Can I stop by your place?" Frank asks desperately.

"Now?"

"Yeah?"

"Sure. Is something wrong?"

Frank hangs up the phone.

Your mouth drops for a second, but then you shrug your shoulders. At least he's stopping by.

Later, the doorbell rings.

You open the door.

Frank barges right in.

"I can't believe--" He makes fists and shakes them in the air, screaming with his mouth closed.

You take a step closer.

"What happened?"

Frank turns his back and stomps over to the couch, sitting down.

You sit next to him.

"Frank, talk to me."

Frank shakes his head in disbelief. "She stood me up."

You put a hand on Frank's shoulder.

Frank closes his eyes. "I should've seen it coming."

"There's nothing you could've done."

Frank looks at you. "I know."

"At least you know she wasn't meant to be with you. You know, because it never happened."

Frank gives a small smile. "What would I do without you?"

A smile spreads across your face.

Frank frowns again. "I'm so sick of not being able to keep a girl."

You let your hand fall down his back. "Someday, Frank."

Frank looks down at his hands in his lap.

You move closer to him and wrap your arms around his body. You put your forehead against the side of his face.

Frank tilts his head. Your noses are almost touching.

You get lost in his bright blue eyes. You can see his pain. It's beyond heavy. You can feel everything on Frank's mind. Your heart aches with his.

You can't help but inch closer to his face.

Frank closes the gap between you and kisses you. He wraps his arms around you.

You put your hands on his face to try to pull him in closer. All you want is for his pain to be washed away. Not that kissing will do that, but you don't really care.

Frank breaks away, hovering not far from your lips.

"What did I just do?" Frank whispers.

You back away to look at him.

Frank looks lost.

You lean in to kiss him gently.

Frank pulls you into a tight hug without breaking the kiss.

Eventually, Frank backs away. He searches your eyes, in disbelief that you could ever like him.

You smile and move to rest your head on his chest. Frank puts his chin on your head and closes his eyes.

You feel at peace in his arms. You know he feels the same way.
