For so long, it was all you knew. You couldn't remember a time when there was peace. True, undying peace. You guessed it had been this way since long before you was born.
As the Crown Princess of the goddess clan, it was your job to hone your skills on the battlefield so you would not lose your life. It was your job to fight the demon clan, as that was all you were taught. You didn't lead our armies, however. You could never. You left those to the Four Archangels, Gloxinia, King of the Faeries, and Drole, King of the Giants. You had just barely convinced the Fairy King and the King of the Giants to fight with you.
Your mother, the Supreme Deity, hadn't been seen since not long after you were born. You were raised in the goddess realm, always hearing about the casualties of the war. They always said it was the demons who were evil, corrupt. That you needed to win the war.
And so, that's what you always believed.
You were your clan's greatest healer, that magic coming easier than the destructive magic of an Ark. When you first joined the war on this side, you saw what an Ark did to demons, and it made your stomach churn. That was why you never found yourself at the front lines.
Sometimes, you had to get away. Everyone keeping an eye on you alway drew you near stir crazy, so you often found yourself sneaking off when they looked the other way.
And that's what happened to make you find yourself in the forest. You were just outside of the Fairy King's Forest, in the human world. Your feet were tickled by the dew on the grass, and you internally kicked yourself for now changing you shoes before you left. Instead, to match your white backless, halter top tunic, you had the sandals most in your clan chose to wear. The leather cord twisted up your calf, keeping the sandal planted on your feet. You had a pair of shorts underneath your tunic, leaving most of your legs vulnerable to the elements.
You knew you had to head back soon, but for now, the forest around you felt so peaceful, it almost scared you. Then, you heard it. A groan of pain. It hadn't come from you.
You heard another groan and you set to find the injured person, hoping you could help. You followed the sounds, and came across the body of a man. He had messy blonde hair, slightly tanner skin than you, and goddesses, those muscles could make any girl swoon. His eyes were closed in pain, his breathing heavy and sweat dripping down his face. The wound lead from his shoulder down his chest, his white clothing torn and stained with blood. You knew you had to do something fast, he was losing too much blood. You got close to him, kneeling down to assess the injury further, but what you saw made you pause, your eyes widening.
He had a circular mark on his forehead, the black twisting and giving an aura that made shivers run down your spine. He was a demon. He must have been in too much pain, since he hadn't noticed you yet.
Every logical part of you screamed at your body to turn away and run, but your conscious told you to heal him. He was injured, and he would likely lose his life if he didn't get treatment. His pained groan rang through your head once more, and you made your decision. You ran your finger next to the gash, the blood collecting on your fingertip. Taking a deep breath, you called to your power, a pale glow coating your hands as you healed the demon. It was tricky, having to reach out and feel for the internal wounds, and you could sense your light mixing with his dark, but it was different than you thought it would be. Your light didn't recoil from it, choosing to dance around the purplish dark. Soon, his pained groans faded, and the wound was healed, not even leaving a scar. The mark on his forehead had faded, and you could sense his darkness retreating inside him.
You closed your eyes, leaning back. Your hand wiped your forehead, slightly worn out from the exertion of your power. Then you remembered that the man you just healed was a demon, you were a goddess. Sworn enemies. If he were to wake up and find you, Mother knows what he would do. And if he were to find out who your mother was...
You quickly stood, ignoring the aches in your body from kneeling for so long. You moved quickly, your body fluid and swift, hoping he didn't wake up, walking in the opposite direction of him.
"Why did you heal me?" You froze at the voice. He had woken up.
You turned, your gaze meeting his, and you saw the most beautiful green eyes that you had ever seen. They were haunted, though, and you guessed it was because of the war.
"I said, why did you heal me?" He asked again, his voice hiding any emotions he might feel.
"You were injured and in pain. I'm a healer, it's what I do," you answered, blinking your eyes to force yourself to stop staring into his eyes.
"Your a goddess though." He stood, slightly wobbly, and you had to force yourself to stay in place. "I'm a demon."
"That doesn't change the fact you were in pain."
"Now I am indebted to you," he scoffed. "A demon, indebted to a goddess."
"You don't have to be, you could just go back to wherever you all camp , and never speak of this." You would have to do the same anyway. If word got out you helped a demon...
"What's your name?"
"Why would I tell you my name?" Your logical side was telling you to run, to get away as fast as possible.
"Look, as much as we shouldn't admit it, you saved my life. I'd at least like to know the name of the woman who I am indebted to." His voice was laced with something you couldn't place.
"I can't. And don't tell me yours, for both of our safeties." You shook your head.
"Look, I can take care of myself," he argued, taking a step towards you. Surprisingly, you didn't move.
"And that is very obvious, considering you had a near fatal injury." You shot back, your voice filled with sarcasm.
"That was because of your Archangel, Ludociel. I was fighting Mael, not Ludociel. Your higher ranking warriors have no honor on the battlefield."
"And I've seen your warriors slaughter a whole village for fun." You were beginning to wonder if you had made the wrong choice in saving the blonde.
"And your people ki-" He started, his eyes flashing with anger, but then cut off, most likely sensing the same thing as you.
The magical power heading towards the two of you was strong, likely Mael and Ludociel. They must be looking for you. You looked at him. "You need to leave. If they find you here, they will kill you. I may have healed you, but I didn't replenish your magical power."
"Like I said before, I can take care of myself." Dark wings appeared behind him, the mark reappearing on his forehead and his green eyes morphing into a soulless black. You flexed your own wings, lifting off of the ground.
"This is goodbye," you said, then with a flap of your wings, you soared, gaining altitude quickly. You glanced down when you were thousands of feet off the ground, sensing him still there, watching you.
As you flew towards Ludociel and Mael, a small part of you that you didn't want to acknowledge wished to see him again.
