CAMERON.

“I’m sorry guys. He was going to kill me if I didn’t do this,” Petra said.

“No, he’s not going to kill you because I will.” Rayne kicked the door again. I moved to the crates and grabbed a cube containing six vials. Footsteps echoed in the passageway and stopped in front of the door.

“Guys, we’re surrounded,” Ash said worriedly.
I put the cube in my jacket pocket and smirked. “You scared, Ashlyn?”

“Don’t call me that,” she warned.

“This is going to be much harder than before. We’re on their turf now,” said Hiro.

“We can take them,” Ryan said. He was already building a fireball in his hand.

“We still haven’t found Sally,” Hakeem pointed out.

“We’ll find her. Even if we have to search every room on this ship,” I said.

“We have you surrounded. Come out with your hands on your head and you won’t get hurt.”

I placed my hands on my head as instructed. “What are you doing?” Ryan hissed.

“I have a plan, just follow me,” I said. I opened the door and came out with my hands on my head. There were about ten guards with guns pointed at us. Ryan came out after me, followed by Hiro and Rayne. Hakeem was the last to come out of the room. Petra was nowhere to be found. Typical of her to run like a coward.

“Wow! It’s a cavalry. If I had known I would receive such a warm welcome I’d have worn my birthday suit,” I joked.

“Shut up!” One of them ordered. He took out a bracelet from his pocket and tried to cuff me with it. The moment his hands touched mine, I grabbed his hands and turned, moving them behind him.

“Now!” I yelled.

Ryan grabbed the closest guard and set him on fire. Hakeem punched one in the face and grabbed his gun out of his hand. I snapped the neck of the guard I was holding, took his gun, and shot the next one. Rayne created ice swords from her hands and slashed two of them at the same time. The blood splashed on my face and I grimaced. Within minutes they were all dead.

I bent and took the gun out of a dead guy’s holster. I cocked it and raised both guns in the air, ready to shoot.

“That’s not how you hold it,” Hakeem said and moved my hands lower, keeping them at level with my chest, and moved my fingers back on the guns.

“Where’d you learn how to shoot?” Ryan snickered.

“Asshole,” I mumbled. “How do you know this?” I asked Hakeem.

“Combat training was taught at the Underground. We had to learn how to use guns too.” He picked another gun and slipped it in his waistband.

Of course, the famous Underground. That place just sounded better and better the more I heard about it. We moved forward and checked every room in the passageway, Sally was not in any of them.

“We’ve got company at 2 o’clock,” Ash said suddenly just as a bullet whizzed past my left ear and hit Ryan on the shoulder.

“Fuck!” he screamed.

Hakeem took the shot, shooting the guard in between the eyes.

“Perfect timing, Ash. You couldn’t have mentioned that earlier?” My ear felt hot and I touched it. It was bleeding.

“I didn’t hear him on time.”

“Damn it!” Ryan groaned and grabbed his shoulder.

“We have to move quickly, more of them would soon be on their way,” I said.

“Gee! Thanks for showing such compassion, Cam,” Ryan said. I ignored him and continued moving. We made it to the upper deck and met the others. It was just Astrid, Jimmy, Chloe, and Sam.

“Where are the others?” I asked.

“We ran into some guards, some of them were injured and Astrid had to get them out of here,” Sam said.

“We’ve searched everywhere. She’s not in any of the cabins,” Jimmy said.

“You’re certain it’s all the cabins?” I asked and he nodded.

“Well, not all,” Chloe said, looking up and we all looked up at the bridge. The lights were on but we couldn’t see anyone up there. There had to be somebody controlling the ship.

“Astrid, take Ryan back to the truck,” I said and handed her the cure.

“What?” he protested. “I’m not going back, I’m staying right here. We don’t know how many people are up there, you need all the help you can get.”

“You’re not in the condition to help anyone. Don’t be stubborn, Ryan, just go with her,” Rayne said. He glared at her but let Astrid take him away.

I looked up at the bridge and took a deep breath. “They know we’re coming guys. There’s no element of surprise. They have the advantage. We go in with full force.”

I closed my eyes and turned my palms to the floor. My eyes turned white and the weather changed. The wind picked up, the ice covering the sea thawed, water rushed out and hit the hull with force. Lightning came out of my palms and I was lifted off the ground.

I’m coming for you, Sally.

KOWALSKI.

Screams and gunshots echoed from beneath me. I looked at Adrien, he looked worried.

“It’s a massacre out there,” he said.

I looked down at his wolves  beside him and they bared their canines at me, drool dripping from their mouths. For a guy who lived with wolves, he got scared easily.

“Which is why we’re in here and not out there.”

Sally scoffed and I looked down at her. “You don’t stand a chance against them.”

“Not with this, princess,” I lifted my ray gun for her to see. I had turned it up to the highest power. It would blow a hole through any breathing creature, even mutated ones.

The weather changed, thunder crackled. The waves got violent and rocked the ship. I kept my eyes trained on the door and gripped my gun tighter. I had fifteen soldiers flanking me, each wielding a ray gun. There was no way anyone that came through that door was making it out alive.

“There’s a storm coming. I don’t think we can sail in such conditions,” the captain said worriedly.

“There’s no storm. This is just one of those hybrids at work. He’s just trying to scare us. Do not stop the ship no matter what.”

Lightning crackled in the sky, sounding so close to my ears, I flinched.  Why weren’t they coming in? I waited for the sound of footsteps on the ladder but none came.

Suddenly the glass behind me shattered and a strong wind blew into the bridge, blowing everyone apart. It threw me off my feet and I hit my back on the workstation. The gun fell out of my hands and slid a few meters away. I looked up at the cause of the commotion and found the blond boy from the school flying in the air. Lightning crackled around him, the wind blowing his hair around his face.

“You’re not paying me enough for this,” Adrien said and scrambled off the floor. He ran out the door with his wolves whining after him.

I looked at Sally and she gave me a small smile as if to say ‘I told you so’. I gritted my teeth. I was not going to let another hybrid one-up me. I crawled to the gun and almost picked it up but he threw a lightning bolt at it and destroyed the gun. He moved into the bridge and the ship tilted sideways.
Out of the chaos, a portal opened and more of them came through.

The blond boy moved towards Sally and the storm stopped abruptly. Enough of this. I pulled out my pistol and shot him. Sally pushed him away in time and the bullet hit the controls behind her.

CAMERON.

The men recovered quickly and got off the floor. One took the first shot and Rayne blocked it with an ice shield. The shield shattered and it sent her flying backward. She got up and charged at them. Jimmy replicated and took out three of them at the same time. Hiro and Chloe raised their hands, creating an electrical whip and lashed three of them. Hakeem picked their guns and pointed them at the men on the floor, they stayed down. I lifted Sally and she groaned in pain.

“It’s okay, I got you,” I whispered.

“You’re not leaving here with her,” Kowalski said and got off his feet.

“Try and stop me,” I said.

He pointed his gun at me and pulled the trigger. Sam clapped his hands and emitted a wave that threw Kowalski out of the bridge and onto the deck.

“You came back for me,” Sally said. Her eyes were droopy and she placed her head on my shoulder.

“Of course I will. I’m never letting go of you.” I looked out at the deck. Kowalski struggled to get to his feet, he saw me and raised his gun in a weak attempt to shoot me. I moved out of view.

“Let’s go, guys,” I said. Astrid opened a portal and they entered. The sound of bullets hitting the hull echoed through the air, stopping everyone in their tracks.

“What about him?”

“He gets to live. It’ll be message enough for whoever sent him to back off.”
