That's right my dear readers! For the first time in its long history, there has been a troll attack at Hogwarts. As most of the Wizarding world knows by now, two days ago while all the Hogwarts students were enjoying the Halloween feast, Professor Quirinus Quirrell ran in screaming of a troll in the dungeons before collapsing in a dead feint. Naturally there was a huge commotion until Professor Dumbledore was able to calm the students and inform them to go back to their dormitories.Note that the Slytherin and Hufflepuff dormitories are located near where the troll was last seen.
After warding the students from those houses within the great hall the professors went out in search of the troll. It is unclear what exactly happened, but by the time the professors returned to get the students they had grave news.
A first year student, Miss Hermione Granger (muggleborn) had been gravely injured and was being sent off for treatment. Her parents have chosen not to comment at this time, but a little birdie has told me that she is recovering well.
As of right now no one knows how the troll got through the wards. Lord Lucius Malfoy, representative of the Hogwarts board of governors, had this to say:
LM: The Hogwarts board of governors has taken the upmost care in discovering just how a troll got through the wards and to the second floor girls lavatory, where he found Miss Granger. According to Albus Dumbledore the wards have always and continue to function as they always have. Trust that we are all outraged and doing all we can to figure this out. We will update you with more information once we have it, however that is all at this time. We also request you stop sending inquiries by owl. We already have many owls to answer and are starting to become overwhelmed.
I ensure you my lovelies that as soon as I have more information from the board I will be sharing it with you.
As you can assume, like many others when they heard the news, I ran out of my office here at the prophet and searched for someone to talk to. It just so happened that I ran into Dowager Longbottom and Lord Olympia who were discussing something in the Alley when I emerged. I stopped them to see if they had anything to say on the happenings at Hogwarts. Dowager Longbottom had little to say:
DL: The fact that an event such as this has occurred is truly beyond comprehension. When I attended Hogwarts a student couldn't go within a meter of the wards without triggering them. How has it gotten to the point where a fully grown mountain troll can enter the wards and nobody noticed?
Lord Olympia agreed with her statement and had this to add:
LO: It truly amazes me that only one student was hurt during this incident. On a day meant to celebrate those who came before us, a life was almost cut far too short. From what I've heard from my son Miss Granger is a promising young witch who will excel in whatever field of study she wishes to pursue. I wish her a quick recovery so she may get back to her studies, and extend my help to her family should they need it. I hope that her family gets closure soon with whatever answers the board finds.
I must say that I agree. It truly is a miracle (and tragedy) that only one student was hurt. As always I will keep you updated on the latest discoveries.
