Chapter 5
Death By What You Are
"Great, thank you, Little Spider." Janus spoke standing up from his seat and walking towards the center of the room.
"You could call it, ironic, I suppose, to what kind of caused my death. In short, my sister was bitten by a snake, coral snake, specifically. That was what kind of pushed me over the edge and I ended up purposefully getting bitten by one so that I could die and be with her."
~~~~~
I was running around in the backyard of my family's vacation home in Arizona, it was right next to the Sonoran Desert. I hadn't noticed it yet but I was approaching a snake. It was basking in the sun on top of a rock. Now, this time I was lucky, my sister had pointed it out before I got too close to it.
The next day though, Jamie had gone out on her own for a bit, I was sent out to get her for lunch when I saw it happen. She stepped on a coral snake, right on the tail. The snake automatically lashed upwards and she screamed realizing what just happened. I yelled for her, thinking that the snake hadn't bit her yet. Once I got to her I saw it hanging onto her ankle.
I yelled for our parents, who were just now getting outside. I didn't know what to do. Jamie was my lifeline. She was the only thing that was actually keeping me sane. I didn't know what I would do without her. So, later that night it was officially announced that she was dead, we had gotten her to the hospital but they didn't believe anything had happened until it was to late. After I knew that everyone was asleep I went outside, I walked for hours until the sun rose and I saw snakes coming out of their dens.
I was looking for one type specifically. I was looking for a coral snake, if I was going to do this it was going to be the same way as her.
When I finally found one I ran up to it and paused for only a minute before I grabbed it in the middle of its body. The snake started thrashing around as soon as I had a good grip on it and it eventually found its way to my wrist. As soon as it realized it could reach me it swung one last time, latching onto my wrist and that's when I knew that as long as I didn't tell anyone what happened, I could be with her soon.
I had already come up with an excuse for my parents if they found me alive. 'I went out on a walk to clear my head late at night and I got lost.'
When they eventually found me just a mile from the house, I had been walking back in that direction, they asked me if anything happened and I replied with a simple 'Nope!' much to their false relief.
After that I stayed in my room all day 'sleeping'. Neither of them really bothered me anyways. They were busy mourning the loss of their only daughter. By that night I was dead. I had let the bite go untreated long enough and I died. It wasn't until the next day that they actually found my body.
~~~~~"Oh Janus..." Patton said before jumping up and latching onto the side in question.
"It's alright Patton. I died a very long time ago. I've gotten over it, honestly I'm quite fond of snakes now." Janus laughed, ruffling the shorter's blond hair. Receiving a slight pout.
The two went back over to the couch and Virgil let out a huff.
"Guess I'm next, huh?"
