After the school day had ended, Josuki found Koharu outside the school. Trying to be a good friend, she called out to her.
Josuki: Hey, Koharu, you heading home?
Koharu looked up to see Josuki waving and stood up to address her.
Koharu: O-oh, yeah!
Josuki: So, we're in the same class?
Koharu: Yeah, talk about coincidence.
Josuki: Right. Well, see you tomorrow, Koharu.
Before Josuki could leave, Koharu called out to her.
Koharu: Ah- Hey! Josuki!
Josuki turned around with a curious expression.
Josuki: Huh?
Koharu started to jog away, waving for Josuki to follow her. Once they were a safe distance away from the school, Koharu whispered to Josuki, causing her face to light up with recognition.
Josuki: Oh, you wanted to know what that Jotako girl had to say!
Koharu: Yeah, it's been bugging me, and it has something to do with this town.
Josuki: That's great, Koharu, but I think I'm gonna pass.
Koharu: Huh? Why?
Josuki: I won't lie and say I'm not curious, but when I thought it over for a bit, I don't think getting involved with all that nonsense is really a good idea.
Koharu: Why's that?
Josuki: Well, things are fine just the way they are now.
Koharu: I see...
A siren blaring in the distance caught the two girls off guard. A group of police cars were speeding down the street, going in the same direction they were.
Koharu: I wonder what that's about.
Josuki: Maybe it was some kind of accident... Wanna go after it?
Koharu: Sure.
As the two began jogging to catch up with the police cars, the boy in the background looked into the forest beyond, seeing the mutilated body of a woman hiding in the brush. While his eyes widened with shock, he didn't seem all that affected. He soon began to run in the direction of the police cars as well.
~{Timeskip}~
Upon catching up to the police cars, the two students found themselves at a convenience store. The lights on the cars were still active, and the police were attempting to form a blockade to keep people from entering.
Koharu: Talk about a huge commotion...
Old Lady: A man robbing that convenience store took a female employee hostage inside!
The woman let out an excited expression, which weirded the two out, but their minds were much more focused on her words.
Officer: There he is! He's coming out!
Right on cue, the robber walked through the doors of the convenience store with a knife held to a young lady's throat.
Officer: Don't move! Drop the knife!
The robber ignored these commands, continuing to walk forward with a threatening smile.
Officer: Let the girl go!
Robber: SHUT UP! GET BACK, ALL OF YOU!
Koharu: I recognize her! She's rung me up here before!
Josuki: His eyes are messed up. He'll kill her if he loses it.
