A/N: This week will be a bit hectic but I'll do my best to update whenever I can because I'm leaving on Saturday and will only be back next Sunday.
.
'I can't believe we are all fired. And all of this before the masquerade ball! I was so looking forward to it, I've never been to a masquerade ball... well, I've never been to a ball at all' gabbled Kai sadly. 'It must be so beautiful' he sighed as he collapsed on his bed. 'And we are banned from the castle too...'
'What should we do now?' asked Soobin, gathering his papers on his desk. 'I mean our future as musketeers can be thrown out the window.' Yeonjun touched the suit he was currently working on that was put on his mannequin.
'I think we should just go home and forget about it' he sighed. Tae, who was meanwhile pacing back and forth suddenly stopped.
'We can't just leave now! Prince Beomgyu's life is in danger!' he huffed.
'And? We did what we could. Monsieur Namjoon and the musketeers will handle the rest' shrugged Soobin. Tae stomped his foot.
'No! Guys, this is important! And we trained with Yoongi so hard! We can protect the prince too!'
'Taehyun, didn't you forget about something?' raised an eyebrow Soobin. 'Maybe the fact that we are all fired and will be arrested if we go back to the castle?'
'Well, that's true' sighed Tae as he continued walking back and forth. 'But the regent's people are bringing weapons inside. And they tried to kill Beomgyu two times last week already! And we know that it was them...'
'But no one believes us' whined Kai.
'But we know that we are not lying! Remember what Yoongi said: we can't trust anyone, only ourselves!'
'That's right' stood up suddenly Yeonjun. They all turned to him. 'Maybe we have to take this into our hands. Maybe it was a mistake to try to report what happened to the captain. We know the truth but no one believes it. Meaning we have to do the work ourselves.'
'It would be actually like some fancy story when we come back after they exiled us and save the day!' It seemed like they all became excited as Kai jumped too.
'The problem is still, how are we getting inside?' asked Tae. Yeonjun grinned.
'Tae, Tae. Don't be so dense' he giggled as he picked up something from the chair where he kept the fabrics he was working from. He held the thing in front of his face. The three boys gasped and Tae slapped his own forehead.
'Of course! It's a masquerade ball!' he chuckled at his own silliness. The mask Yeonjun made looked pretty cool and actually covered most of his face, making him unrecognizable. Well, at least for people who don't know him that well and that was enough for them.
'And we can get inside through the secret door. We know the corridors by heart by now! And who would know the castle better than us? We clean every inch of it day by day!' added Soobin.
'So are we really going to do it?' asked Kai. They all nodded.
'Okay, let's see what do we need' clapped his hands Soobin. 'First of all: costume. We have to disguise ourselves as guests.'
'You can count on me with that' said Yeonjun. 'I've always wanted to make some fancy outfits!'
'Great!' exclaimed Taehyun. 'We also need some weapons that we can use and fit with our outfits' he hummed. Soobin nodded.
'Yeonjun can have his ribbons, he can hide them in his outfit. Kai, you take your fans.'
'Of course!' clapped the youngest. 'I use them better than any of the ladies at the ball.'
'Cool. I'll bring my sling but I'm not sure what to do with it' sighed Soobin. Yeonjun picked up one of Soobin's slings from his desk and hummed, then went up to the younger and put it in his neck, making Soobin blush from his friend's closeness.
'Why don't you use it like this?' Yeonjun stepped back.
'A necklace! That's actually a great idea' agreed Tae. 'And I'll bring a blade. I can hide it in my boots.'
'Amazing! We should get to work!' said Yeonjun.
'Can you guys dance?' asked Kai suddenly. Soobin gestured so-so while Yeonjun just nodded. Tae pouted. Kai's eyes lit up. 'Don't worry, I can teach you! You can't go to a ball with zero dance skills after all! My gosh, this is so exciting! We'e going to the masquerade ball, guys!' he jumped, making his friends laugh.
'We can do this! Now let's get into the preparations!'
.
The four boys spent the night awake in their room in the servants' hostel while preparing for the first ball of their lives.
Soobin was making their weapons, he scribbled in his notebook swiftly as he measured ribbons and made a sheath for the blades.
Yeonjun was working precisely by his mannequin, creating their clothes for the ball. He made a green outfit for Kai, blue for Soobin, pink for Tae and purple for himself.
Meanwhile Kai was teaching Tae how to dance at the ball. As they were dancing around in the room, Yeonjun sometimes ran behind them with his tape measure trying to take the two's measurements.
'During the sword dance, the prince chooses a partner as they dance in the middle while there are several men around them with those decor swords' explained Kai as he tried to teach the steps to Tae. 'Meanwhile other people in the ballroom dance around them.'
'The conspirators are probably going to make their move then' nodded Taehyun.
'Now put your hand on my shoulder, like this' said Kai, putting Tae's hand on his shoulder.
'Sorry, it's just I'm feeling so stupid' sighed Tae, trying to copy Kai's moves.
'You don't have to! You're doing great despite the fact that you can't dance' assured him the taller. 'Just imagine I'm Beomgyu' he grinned, making Tae miss a step in his surprise and almost lose balance.
'What, I- hey, don't you have a crush on him?' asked Tae. Kai shrugged.
'Soobin was right, I have a crush on everyone who wears uniform' he giggled. 'But you and him have something going on' he wiggled his eyebrows. Taehyun sighed as they continued the dance.
'Nah, not really. He's a prince, Kai' he pouted. 'Can we not talk about this?'
'Sorry' smiled the younger apologetically. 'Now step to the right~'
Despite them having fun for the rest of the night, Tae just couldn't get rid of a weird feeling in his chest. What if something goes wrong?

A/N 2.0: Ajsjasfbdjfknfh my father just entered my room and he was like 'what are you writing? A novel?' and I was like 'yes' and then awkward silence as he probably didn't expect that and wanted me to tell more but I can't just say 'oh you know I'm writing a boyxboy fanfic of one of my favorite kpop groups which takes place in the 17th century France and is based on a Barbie movie' because he'd send me to therapy immediately so I just waited till he decided to leave lol
