Act 2 Scene 3
[Chris is woken up on New Year's Eve by Fred.]
Fred: Wake up sunshine! Time for another day! And the last day of 1707!
Chris: (Sleepily) Yay... (Yawns)
Fred: Look alive lass! Have a bit of fun!
[She grumbles and sits up. She walks to the deck and sees that the men are more lively than usual]
Ethan: (Walks over to her) Chris! Are you excited?!
Chris: I don't even know what's happening.
Ethan: We are having a New Year's party! The men are going to prepare for it right after... (Shouts) Finishing Their Chores!
[Three men who were just talking and not working jump at his words and get back to work]
Ethan: (Laughs) They think that they can get away with anything! It's ridiculous!
Chris: (Laughs) Well I'm looking forward to it.
Ethan: We all are. Anyway, the deck isn't going to swab itself. Get to work!
Chris: Yeah, yeah alright! Give me a second to wake up!
[She spends the entire day scrubbing, washing and cleaning the entire deck. And some of the lower deck too.]
Chris: (Thoughts) Phew! At least it's almost the end of the day.
Ethan: Oi! Whoever isn't here, get your butts over here Now!
[Everyone walks over to the Captain and stand around him. He is standing on a barrel]
Ethan: Alas, the year is almost over. But a new dawn approaches!
[They all cheer.]
Ethan: It's the time that we party and drink the night away! Let's all tell stories before we begin another day!
[ He pokes a hole in the barrel with his sword and rum pours out. They all cheer again and start the party. They drink rum and eat slightly mouldy bread.]
Fred: Have you actually never had a drink before?
Chris: No!
Fred: Really! Come on try it!
[She takes a swig then spits a bit out.]
Chris: It's strong! But nice!
[The men laugh. They dance and talk about ghost stories and drink until they can barely stand. Ethan and Chris go off to the side and talk in private.]
Chris: This was nice.
Ethan: Yeah, it was. I can't believe that was your first drink. I'm surprised you haven't thrown up yet.
Chris: I don't know. It might come soon.
Ethan: (Laughs) Well do it into the water! Not on my ship!
Chris: (Leans over and throws up into the sea.) Augh!! (Shudders)
Ethan: Woah! Take it easy darlin!
