So...I'm writing in a journal. This feels a little weird, writing my thoughts and feelings down, but Sakura-chan suggested it so I guess I could give it a try?

Let's see, where do I start? I guess I could write down what happened today?

I was headed to the Hokage tower when...

"The hell is this?" I could feel the wetness of my socks and the ankle of my pants followed closely by a foul smell. I gagged a little as I coved my nose with my cape. "Why does it stink so bad?!"

"The pipes broke." A muffled voice spoke from behind. I recognized that voice belonging to Shikamaru. As I looked at him, I noticed he already had a mask on. He must've gotten here earlier than me, as always.

"Shikamaru, how did this happen?"

"Don't know," he spoke through the mask. "It was like this when I came. Don't worry too much, we got people working on it. Come on."

As I followed him, the stench grew more and more intense. I scrunch my nose in disgust as I spoke to him. "Was it just the lobby that was flooded?"

"Unfortunately, no. Notice how the smell intensifies as we get closer to your office?"

"Hard not to notice... Wait, don't tell me..."

Before I could finish, Shikamaru opened the door to my office. The smell was fucking awful!

Like raw eggs!

"Oh hell no."

My office was flooded with brown water. I could see my papers practically drowning in the low water, my desk filled with debris. I looked to my left and gasped. A huge pipe was sticking out of the wall

"My wall!"

"Yup. Luckily, all this happened last night so nobody got hurt or anything. Well, all except our noses." he stifled a gag. "So troublesome."

"Did somebody figure out how this happened?" I watched him as he picked up some papers and a bunch of folders and agenda books stacked onto the desk.

"Well, the pipes were old. This building has been due for a serious remodeling, at least within the pipes, but there's never any time. Before you, you know nobody had time to focus on some damn pipes being replaced because," he handed me the stack. "everybody was always at war. Somebody wanted to kill someone. You know how it was. It was going to happen sooner or later and it just so happen to be on your term as Hokage." He explained.

"Ok but uh..what did you just give me?"

"Well, these are the papers, requests from the citizens, messages from the other Kages, etc. It's going to take a minute for things to get back to normal."

"So where are we going to go?"

Shikamaru raised his brow at me. "We are staying at home until they fix this."

"Work from home? Ah...I have to call Sakura-chan and let her know I'll be home earlier than usual."

"Hm...you seem to be taking this better than some of the others. Excited to stay at home for a couple of months?"

"Yeah, I want to spend more time... Wait..wait did you just say a couple of months?"

"Yes."

"Now wait a minute Shikamaru, I can't do this work at home for more than a couple of weeks! Do you know how many kids I have?"

"Yeah, I was there for all three births, remember? Listen, you're going to be fine. You'll just have to figure it all out. I'll check in on you and who knows, maybe they'll end up finishing the remodeling earlier than I said. Now come on, If I stand in this shit water any longer, I'll pass out."

I concluded our conversation and walked out the door, delighted to smell the fresh air again, and walked back home. Soon enough, I made my way to the front door, struggling to open the door, and greeted my wife and son for the second time this morning.

"Naruto, what are you doing back so early?" I noticed that she sniffed the air and tried to stifle my chuckle. "And why do I smell sewage water?"

"Well, about that.." I sat the stack of paper on the kitchen table. "I'm not going to be at the office for a while because the building's pipes busted last night and now, the whole building is flooded and it stinks."

"Oh so you stinking up my kitchen huh?" she smiles. "So what's the plan now?"

"Shikamaru said to work from home until things get better so.."

"Really? Bet the kids will love that. I know you've been wanting to spend more time with the kids since you've been so busy the last month."

"I mean I don't mind working from home but being Hokage already gets in the way of the time between you and the kids, even though we make time. I want it separate, you know? Work is for work but when I'm home, that's daddy time for the kids." I stepped closer and spoke in a whisper, " And for us... " I smile cheekily at her and in response, she rolls her eyes.

"You'll be fine, I'm sure you'll find the balance as did I."

"Yeah, but I was there so really it was a team effort. Will you help me with this?' I smile this time in a sheepish manner.

"Actually..." she looked away from me

I looked at her wide eye. "Actually what?"

"Well, I'm going, to be honest, and say that this couldn't have come at a better time because the hospital staff, specifically Lady Tsunade-sama, were asking me to take on longer hours. Right now, we're really working hard on this new medicine that can help so many but with the kids and you staying late every so often, it's been a little slow trying to figure out everything."

"So you're leaving me?!" I whined.

"Baka I'm not leaving you alone the entire time, I'll still be here, the roles are just switched! And keep your voice down, Arashi-chan is sleeping." She points to the couch my red-headed son sleeps peacefully.

"Sorry.." I sat down in silence for a minute before I spoke again. "How long?'

"I don't know but the more hours I stay, the more tests I can do and the more test that I can run, the faster we can get to the right results."

"Ok well..just answer me this, how did you manage to keep sane?"

She turned to me with her finger on her chin. A moment later, she smiles warmly at me and says "My diary."

And that's how I'm here. I don't know how I'm going to sign, read, and stamp all of these papers and watch the kids, Arashi is just one year old! Hanami is a handful at four and Shina-chan... well Shina is going to be fine so I'm not worried, but the rest?! And with Sakura-chan working more hours at the hospital now that I'm going to be here, I don't know how I'm going to manage! I'm going to need all the help I can get...
