Sam and I arrive at the hotel, and we go up to the room. EJ and Ande are watching a movie.
"Dominic was wrong about you." Sam says.
"And what did he say?" Ande answers.
"You are a pretty little thing, but I would describe you as beautiful. Like an angel. Do you want to dump this guy and go out with a real man?"
Ande tilts her head to the side, like she's examining the person who is Sam. I can't help but laugh at Sam's attempt to flirt with Ande.
Ande walks over and grabs my hand.
"Nope. This model doesn't need any improvements."
"Is that so?" Sam replies.
"Yep. I don't think you can give me anything Dominic can't."
"Really? How about ..."
I see the gleam in Sam's eye, so I stomp on his foot.
Sam jerks his head toward me. "Ow! What was that for?"
"We are in the presence of a lady, not a group of guys." I answer.
Sam rolls his eyes at me. "Whatever. Let's get down to telling them what happened and coming up with a solution."
We all sit around discussing options for about an hour before EJ orders pizza.
We have just sat down to eat when EJ gets a call. He leaves the room to talk to whoever it is. He has a solemn look on his face when he returns.
"What's that look for?" I ask EJ.
"I just got some horrible news," EJ says. "Tally's mom and sister were in a car accident. Her sister is in ICU, so Tally and Miriam left for Applewine an hour ago."
Ande gasps beside me and I grab her hand. I know how close all of us have become recently, so I'm sure she is as concerned as I am.
"Mia would like us to return as soon as possible. At this moment, it is unsure when Tally and Miriam will come back, and with me gone that makes them down two trainers. With the rebellion ..."
I clear my throat and motion my head towards Sam.
"Do you trust him, bärchen?" EJ asks.
"I do, but there is no telling who will use who to get information and what they will use to get it."
EJ paces the room. I know he trusts me but revealing our secret is a huge decision when the person doesn't or isn't going to live on the islands.
EJ lets out a shout.
"What's that about?" I ask him.
"I know a way for us to tell Sam, if he wants to know, but block his communication of it away from the islands. It's only a temporary solution, so it's not used often, but I have a good feeling about Sam," EJ says and winks at me. I start understanding what he's referring to, and it brightens my thoughts.
I simply nod, and EJ walks over and sits in front of Sam.
"What we were talking about is a highly kept secret."
Sam beams. "Ooo... like James Bond."
"I guess." EJ shrugs. "Back to the topic at hand, if you want to be in on what we are talking about, we will have to tell you this secret. But to do that, I need to do something that will cause you not to be able to disclose the information to anyone else."
Sam looks confused and mildly scared.
He looks over at me. "Do you want me to know about this?"
"It would be nice for you to know. It would give me another person to talk to," I say to him.
