Story Notes - Magic and Religion

~ Magic ~

Ancient Ones - Magical beings that have "crossed the veil" and no longer live physically on Earth. They live in another realm. The Divine Couple has chosen these specific spirits as being worthy to be an Ancient One.

They are counselors and the ultimate authority when it comes to magical creatures living within the realm of Earth. They are the gatekeepers when someone wants to pull too much energy out of the D.E.

They have the power to draw from the DE to do with as they like, but they always strive for a balance.

They can do such things as grant people powers, intervene and perform "actions" in the physical realm. They can look out for people, and be seen as "spirits"; but to do so draws energy from the DE.

Asking the Ancient Ones to do small things - like levitation and object moving - doesn't take much from this pool, however bigger tasks performed by the Ancient Ones will pull more energy, i.e. bigger tasks require more energy.

Granting people special powers requires quite a bit of energy. So they don't do it without a very good reason. Also the more living magical creatures with special powers the more potential for quicker drain on the energy pool.

The Chaban Crystal also pulls its magic directly from this energy pool.

Chaban Crystal - The Chaban Crystal is a stone found by a shepherd named Oleksander Chaban in the area now known as Ukraine. He was friends with the witches, and when he felt some kind of power emanating from the stone he found, he took it to his friends. It ends up that inside this "stone" was an unusual crystal made of emerald but resembling a geode.

It was found that the Chaban Crystal was a crystal with immense power - not only as a power source, but also as something that could enhance magic. It is also one of eight crystals that are a direct link to the Dexameni Energeias. A local Seer told the group leaving the area to find a safe haven to take the crystal with them.

As thanks for discovering the crystal, Oleksander Chaban was asked to go with the group looking for a safe haven. They allowed him, his family, and extended family to travel with them. This trip eventually led them to the area that would become the Avic Islands. [Oleksander Chaban is a 3rd Great-Grandfather of Dominic Young.]

The rebellion led by Frank Stormer tried to get the crystal during the Erbyn Revolt, but the crystal was moved to a nearby "hidden" island for safekeeping.

The rebellion couldn't find it at first.

With the increase in activity with the rebellion, the next generation of Protectors is trained to be brought to Everling to continue to protect the crystal.

Daggers of Hamingja - Special long daggers made by Lars Erik Westlin for his grandchildren, Ambrose, Alexander and Lysandra. Lars was an accomplished blacksmith, who made weapons especially for the People's Army.

Lars went to the Elders to have them instill magic into the daggers as extra protection for his grandchildren. They agreed because Lars had done great services for them and because his grandchildren were married or dating Protectors.

The Elders used his blood during the ceremony, so that the magic contained within the swords could only be someone who was a direct descendant of Lars.

After the deaths of Ambrose Westlin, Alexander Westlin and Lysandra Evans, the daggers were handed down to Tallulah James, Tanner Orson, and Michaela Price.
