I re-did this chapter since I wasn't proud of the other draft.
Steve closed up the shop for the night,
sighing in relief.Before Robin could ask to hitch a ride with him, Nancy grabbed Robin's wrist. She looked over at the curly haired girl.
"Everything alright?" Robin asked her, confused but concerned.
Nancy suddenly realized how eager of her it was. "Oh — uhm," Nancy stuttered, her face turning pink.
Steve had already trailed off and out of the mall, there wasn't any hope of her asking for a ride home.
Nancy finally pulled herself together, "Can I drive you home?" She awkwardly asked, letting go of Robin's wrist.
"Alright, yeah." Robin awkwardly fiddled with her fingers, turning back to the awkward self she was.
~~~~~~~
Robin breathed in the fresh air that projected in her face when she turned down Nancy's car window. The scent smelt natural, and Earthy, which was perfect to Robin.
Nancy had made some small talk here and there, nothing unordinary.
"There was this one person who I used to like." Robin miraculously brought up.
Nancy surprisingly looked at her, she didn't think Robin would like anyone.
"I'm not sure they liked, or even like me back." Robin deadpanned.
Nancy sighed, figuring it was probably Steve. She kept her eyes on the road, trying not to look at Robin. But she kept ranting on about the mystery person.
"Who wouldn't like you? You're kind, funny, diligent, hot—" Nancy immediately knew what she had said, she had the urge to diss herself.
Robin blankly looked at her, "You mean it?" She asked, raising her eyebrows.
"Sorry, sorry.—" Nancy awkwardly replied, she felt the tension burn her skin.
The car ride was silent, too silent for a couple of seconds.
"I could say the same about you." Robin smiled at her, looking over at the embarrassed girl.
Nancy felt herself burn up in pink blush. "I—, thank you." She stopped herself from saying anything else.
~~~~~~~
"So, who's the person you were talking about?" Nancy asked, urgently waiting for a reply.
Robin felt her face fall, she wasn't sure she would accept her for who she really was.
"Steve." Robin lied, immediately feeling it stab in the back, she really wanted to tell her it was Vickie, but the risk was miles long.
"Oh, nice." Nancy contained calm, feeling dreary. Nancy pursed her lips to say something, then closing them.
"I hope you two get together, you guys make such a great duo." Nancy happily announced, feeling the pain ache inside of her.
Robin smiled back at her, even if she was lying about her crush, she felt happy to confess something, even if it was in the shape of someone else.
"Thanks."
