The next day Charlie and Fulton weren't at school. I still didn't feel really good but I wanted to go to school. Being at home is kinda boring.

Adam and I sat in history which was kinda enjoying. It was fun for the first time.

After school I went over to Adam's house to do some homework. Adam always helped me with history because most of the time I didn't get it. This time we were just making out the entire time....

Charlie called Adam to pick him and Fulton up because they were throwing up in the mall.

So we stepped into Adam's car and drove to the mall. Charlie and Fulton looked really bad. All pale.

They had a conversation in the backseat.

"We should've been in school huh? Tomorrow it'll be more fun." Charlie said.

"Yeah but after that I mean what? We can't do this forever." Fulton said back.

"Yeah I know. See, the way I got it figured we go to public school for a couple years and we just go play juniors in Canada. You only got to be 17." Charlie explained.

"Man Charlie, I don't even know if I can make juniors." Fulton reacted.

"Are you kidding me? With your shot. Come on."

"I mean I don't know if I want to play hockey for the rest of my life." Fulton looked serious at Charlie.

"You're going back." Charlie looked at him in disbelief.

"We can deal man, the ducks are there. Adam and Ki are there." Fulton looked us.

"Dude... fine just get out of here then. I don't care, I don't need you. Go!" Charlie looked away from him.

Adam stopped at Fulton's house. "Bye Fulton, see you tomorrow." He stepped out of the car.

"Char, come back to school. I need you." I tried to convince him.

"You don't need me. You have Adam and the ducks." He answered.

"You too! You have them too." I said.

"No I don't. They don't even like me anymore." He said.

"Don't be so insecure about yourself Charlie. The ducks will always like you." I said.

He stayed quiet.

"I'll drop you off first Ki." Adam said.

We arrived at my house and I stepped out of the car.

"I'll see you tomorrow. You too Charlie. Just come back, okay?" I hugged him and gave Adam a kiss.

I walked inside and kicked off my shoes.

"Grandpa! I'm home." I yelled. I got no answer. "Grandpa?"

I walked into the living room where he laid on his chair. He usually wakes up when I yell that I'm home. I tried to shake him awake. Nothing.

Panic started taking over. "Grandpa wake up!!" Tears streamed down my face. "Please wake up! You can't be dead!"

I ran to the phone and called an ambulance.

"Hello? How can I help you? Police, ambulance or fire brigade?"

"Ambulance please!"

"What's the address?"

"It's uhh, I don't know."

"Okay Ms, please send us your location."

I send my location and hang up. The ambulance was on the way.

A few moments later they arrived. They ran inside and took Hans with them. I talked to a nurse who asked me some questions. Turns out he had an heart attack.

Another doctor asked if he could talk to the nurse and because of the looks of their faces, I knew it was bad.

The nurse came to me. "I'm sorry to tell you this but, he's dead. Is there anyone who can come here? A grown up?"

"Uhmm my parents are not in town. But I think I know who to call." I sobbed and walked to the hallway.

"Hey Ms. Banks. Can you please come to my house?"

I heard a knock on the door. I when I opened it, I saw Adam and Ms Banks. Without saying anything, I hugged Ms Banks.

"Hans is dead." I sobbed.

Adam gasped and teared up.

"O my god honey, I'm so sorry." Ms Banks said.

I let go of her and hugged Adam while she walked in.

Adam and I sat on the couch while his mom talked to the nurse some more.

"Ki, I know it's hard but you should call your parents. And maybe Casey?" Adam said.

"You're right." I sobbed. I stood up, grabbed my phone and walked to my room to call them.

Charlie's pov
After Adam brought me home I went to my moms work. I knew she worked until late so I decided to visit her there. On the way, I thought a lot about what Kiara said about school and the ducks missing me. Maybe I should go back.

I walked in and saw my mom sitting on a chair, crying.

"Mom. What's going on?" I asked her confused.

"Kiara called me. Hans he.... he passed away." My heart sunk and I started crying. "It was his time to go." My mom hugged me tied.

I feel so bad, especially for Kiara. Her parents are not in town so she's all alone. And she was alone when she found him.

I let go of the hug and wanted to walk out. "Charlie where are you going?" Mom asked.

"I need to see Kiara. She needs someone now. She can't be alone."

"She's not alone honey. The Banks family is there." She said.

I want to go see her. But she needs time.

After I called Casey, I called my parents.

"Hey dad."

"Hey honey! How are you?"

"Yeah I'm fine, is mom there?"

"Yes she's next to me. Kiara, are you crying?"

"No I'm okay..... actually I'm not."

"What's going on?"

I didn't want to tell them. They'll be devastated.

"Grandpa passed away." I broke down again. It was quiet for a long time.

"We're so sorry honey."

"For what?"

"That we aren't home right now. We need to be there for you right now and we aren't." I heard them cry.

"It's fine. You didn't know this was going to happen. And besides, the Banks's are here now."

"Okay, we're coming home right now honey!"

They hung up. I slid down the wall to the ground. My head rested in my knees.

I couldn't imagine how my parents are feeling, especially my dad. Hans was his dad.

Adam came in my room. "Everyone is gone. You want me to leave too?"

"No! Please stay here." I said.

"Of course. I'll stay here as long as you need." He wrapped his arms around me.

Adam and I went to bed. I couldn't sleep. All I was thinking about is grandpa and my parents. How am I supposed to live without my grandpa, my best friend?
