Teal led me into Trea's hospital room. He was unconscious when I got there, but as I sat down and began the awkward conversations with the rest of his family, he started stirring a little.

Our families always liked each other, and even after the breakup both of our moms would still head out for coffee or make time for each other, whether it was in Washington, Florida, or LA.

As I nervously continued the conversation with his parents, I observed Trea.

He looked awful. It looked bad on the TV and Twitter, but sitting next to him now... he looked about 10x worse.

The whole right side of his face was swollen, and it was still pretty bloody as well. Luckily, the way he was positioned when the pitch hit him he turner his head just enough for it to only affect one side of his face, which was still bad, but it could've been a hell of a lot worse.

The doctors came in a few minutes later, and that was when he began to move again. Fortunately, they assured us he would be fine physically, but it was still to be determined whether or not it affected his brain or conscious.

They also told us he'd probably be waking up within the hour, and to be weary of his actions because he'd most likely wake up panicked and confused.

A couple moments of silence went by, partly because we were all just sitting there staring anxiously at Trea, but he also began to move again.

This time, his movements were a lot more full and intense. He wasn't just flapping his arm a little bit, it was like he was waking up.

He groaned and began to turn over from his side to his stomach, at which Teal quickly stopped because if he laid on his face he'd be in excruciating pain.

"Teal?" he groaned, blinking a few times as he tiredly looked up at her.

"You're up!" she exclaimed, as the rest of his family got up and crowded him.

I got up too, in all honesty there were tears freshly streaming down my cheeks knowing he was alright. I just wasn't sure if it was right to go up and get in his space and hug him after we'd refused to talk for years.

After his family hugged him, everyone backed up and I became more visible.

"Y/N?" he asked, his gaze catching mine as his blue eyes widened and delicately looked at me.

"Hi, Trea," I trailed softly, his families eyes glued on us as they waited for either one of us to say something to each other.

There was a long silence between us, before I choked out, "Are you alright?"

Trea felt his swollen face, tensing at the touch before looking back to me and nodding, "Yeah, I think so."

I still wasn't sure what to say. Especially since his whole family was in the room with us, but I knew there was one thing I could say.
"Sorry," I whispered to him.

"It's okay," he replied, reflecting my tone as it started to feel like the only people in this room were us. When he responded to me it's like he knew exactly what I was talking about. Like he had our breakup on his mind too, "Can I hug you?" he softly asked, a little embarrassed that everyone's eyes were planted on us.

"Of course," I twinkled, walking around to the right side of his hospital bed and embracing him. Gosh, did I miss this feeling.

We held each other for longer than a friendly hug, and as we did his family began to sneak out the door and leave us alone.

"Wanna talk?" I asked, backing up a little to get a glimpse of his salty ocean eyes.

"Yeah," he agreed, sitting back as I sat down in the chair next to his bed.

"I'm sorry about what happened, everything. I mean it, Trea." I frowned, the subject was hard for both of us.

Somehow in the process of becoming the perfect couple, we'd torn each other down too many times to be a happy and healthy one.

Between Trea being the starboy of the Washington Nationals and best looking in the MLB, and me being a pretty little reporter girl that 'only got her job for her looks' a lot went on in our worlds and we wanted to make it work.

Despite how many times it crashed we'd always find a way to pick it all back up and put it together.

But once it crashed and burned there was no going back.

A lot went on in 24 hours, and strangely we hadn't even talked to each other through it all. I'd just gotten off a plane to Oakland when I heard Trea had been seen out with another girl.

I was hurt, I was extremely hurt.

But what I didn't realize though was that I had been caught in Phillie with Aaron Nola, and the pictures that surfaced weren't necessarily how I remembered it happening, but I kissed him.

I broke Trea so badly that within 24 hours he was already out with another girl.

Now, though, we realize we'd hurt each other so much that we couldn't love again.

"I am too. I'm sorry, Y/N." Trea croaked, even though his face was all swollen and puffy I could still tell when he was on the brink of tears, "I still love you." he blurted out.

Our gazes met once again. His blue eyes poured into mine and I couldn't look away as he stared at me in anticipation.

"I love you too." I replied.

"I think we can make this work, y'know?" he asked.

"Well, we've waited on each other for so long," I shyly smiled, "There's no reason to not try."

His arm extended and he tucked a piece of hair behind my ear, slowly laughing before saying, "I'd kiss you right now if my face didn't look like this."

"Nah," I shrugged, leaning into him so close that I could feel his warm breath on my skin.

Slowly, I placed a gentle kiss on his forehead and watched as he grinned when I backed up.

We exchanged warm smiles as we looked at each other for a couple more seconds. We were both a little nervous.

But after all the years of avoiding and not dating, being embarrassed about what happen.

The wait might've been worth it.

Because it led us back to each other.

Which is where we're meant to be.
