evelyn thomas was the source for all of amber's problems. okay, not really but it sure felt that way. amber's been in love with chris for about 2 years now, except her, evelyn and chris were completely clueless to it.
it confused amber that every time evelyn and chris did anything together it made her jealous. it was to the point where it caused evelyn and amber to drift away from each other.
amber stared at evelyn with her peach milkshake in hand. evelyn was wearing a simple crop top with mom jeans and vans, but to amber she looked like the most beautiful human being.
that was amber's issue, she always compared herself to other girls. she just couldn't find it in her to think she could ever compete with the girls chris hung around, which upset her to think about because she couldn't figure out why she was thinking it in the first place.
"hey amber, you okay?" matt asked and amber looked over at her best friend, sighing quietly as she nodded. "yeah, just not feeling my best." she admitted and he nodded, his gaze landing on chris and evelyn laughing and playfully shoving each other.
"are you sure you're not just jealous?" destiny spoke up from beside amber, who rolled her eyes. she thought this topic was ridiculous every time it was brought up, but deep down she wondered if it was true. was she jealous?
"jealous of what? there's nothing to be jealous of." amber scoffed, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear as she tore her eyes away from chris and evelyn. it made her heart feel a little better to look away.
"we can all see that you like him ambs. we're just waiting on you." destiny sighed and amber just stared at her for a moment.
did she like chris? sure she loved staring into his eyes, because they were as bright as a blue sky and they used to always point out funny shapes in the clouds. she liked his smile because it always made her feel a little less out of place, and like he thought she belonged. she liked his laugh, especially if she was the one to make him laugh. it made her feel good to know that he could find her lame jokes funny. she loved the hugs he'd give her when she was sad, or just when she was in a hugging mood. she loved sneaking in through his window so they could listen to music all night and wake up in the middle of the afternoon.
her eyes widened and her lips parted as she gave destiny a look of horror "wait.. do you think i actually..?" she trailed off and destiny gave her a sad smile that confirmed all of amber's worries.
amber turned to look at evelyn and chris again, examining how close they were. she could tell that they had a thing for each other. they were always together, and when they were they were always inseparable.
"i'm gonna go sit in the car and think." amber told destiny, rushing off immediately after, leaving destiny to watch her run away sympathetically.
