Carina woke up to Maya's SATs dropping.
"Maya, what's wrong?" Carina asks while grabbing the stethoscope from the table next to the bed and listening to her lungs.
"Don't know"
"Ok, you need to cough, and you knocked you oxygen off"
Carina helped Maya cough, suctioned her, fixed her oxygen and turned it up. Maya's SATs increased but not as much as Carina would like.
"I want to lay down and sleep" Maya says once she's breathing better.
"Ok" Carina adjusted the bed and positioned her then she fell asleep again.
She'd been asleep for maybe half an hour when the alarm on the monitor started going off again. Carina looked over finding Maya still asleep but her oxygen levels dropping. Carina rolled her on her side just in time as she threw up again. Carina hit the call button then grabbed the suction, trying to hold Maya on her side while suctioning her mouth, her SATs were still dropping. A nurse walked in
"Can you hold her on her side and page dr Pierce?" Carina asks. The nurse took over holding Maya so Carina could focus on making sure Maya's airway was clear. Maggie ran in a minute later.
It was scary for a few minutes, Maya struggling to breathe and her SATs dropping but Maggie put her on hi-flow oxygen and after a few minutes she stabilized.
The nurse got extra pillows to position Maya so she stayed on her side to lower the risk of her choking then left her to sleep. A bit later she woke up.
Carina adjusts the bed so she's sitting up a bit and grabs a glass of water, putting the straw in her mouth. Maya started to bring her arms up to hold the cup and discovered that she has an IV in one arm and her wrist was being held straight which stopped her from holding anything because she can't use her hands so she uses both arms to hold anything. Her hand with the IV started burning all the way up her arm when she moved it.
"Ow, it hurts" she says, dropping her arms back down to her sides
"What hurts?" Carina asks.
"Hand, arm, I don't know, it hurts, like burning all the way up to my neck" she says, using her other hand to press on that arm, trying to make it stop.
"Is it something wrong with the IV?"
"I don't know, I can't usually feel most of my hand!" Maya snaps. "Sorry"
"It's ok" Carina says, stroking her hair. "Can I look?"
Maya nods so Carina carefully picks up her hand, Maya wincing as her arm is moved.
"Sorry Bambina. I don't see anything obviously wrong, I'm going to page someone" Carina gently lays her arm down again and was about to page someone when Amelia walked in.
"Hello, I just came to see how you're doing" Amelia says cheerfully as she walks in before noticing Maya's pained face. "What's wrong?"
"It's like burning in my hand all the way up to my neck but I can't usually feel this part of my hand" Maya says, going back to pushing on her arm
"Your right arm?"
"Ya, it started when I moved it but it's not stopping"
"Ok, I'm going to take your IV out, it's easy to put a new one in later" Amelia says putting gloves on and walking over to her. She removed the dressing off and pulling the IV out then took the block off that was holding her wrist straight. Maya started moving her arm and wrist then pinned her hand against her leg to try to straighten her fingers which wasn't working.
