The rain was still thundering heavily on the roads, as Abhigna's red Sudan pulled up in front of the dance studio. Noticing that it was quite empty, Abhigna stealthily parked in front of the entrance.
"You do know there's a parking lot, right?" Felix reminded. "You do know that I don't like the rain, right?" Abhigna fired back, huffing out loudly, annoyed that Felix unknowingly chose the yellow umbrella back at the dorm. The yellow umbrella that she had forgotten Meenakshi had broken a few weeks ago. So now, they were sitting in the car with an umbrella that had a large torn hole down the middle.
"We can use your hoodie, it seems pretty big to cover both our heads." Felix offered, eyes on the blue hoodie with big painted letters.
"Are you dumb? It's the only hoodie I have of Stray Kids and you want it to go in the rain?" Abhigna exclaimed, hugging herself tightly.
"I mean, if you put it in the washing machine, then it's not that different."
"Are you kidding me? The rain is the rain. And I hand-wash my hoodie. I can't use that contaminated washing machine water. Saving my money, you know." Felix look bewildered, not knowing whether he was shocked by her refusal to give up her hoodie, or her washing machine debacle.
A loud thumping was heard from the windows, a black shadowy figure pounding their hand next to Abhigna. The two screamed, before they heard a muffled voice.
"Hello? Can I come in now?"
Stunned, Abhigna unlocked the car, letting a drenched Meenakshi plop in the backseat.
"Don't you have the decency to call me that you're here? I was glad enough to see the car from inside." Meenakshi raised her voice slightly, clenching onto the wet thin black shirt for some warmth.
"Well I'm sorry, we were dependent on an umbrella that you ruined." Abhigna retorted, locking the car before restarting it. The car rumbled quietly, before making its way down the road. The car was silent, Abhigna's eyes focused on the road, Felix looking down at his sneakers, and Meenakshi staring with a clenched jaw at the rain. The five minute car ride ended when they arrived back at the dorms. Felix followed the two girls inside, small plastic bag tagging behind him in his hand. Abhigna unlocked the door, and before she could even step inside the house properly, Meenakshi stormed inside, tossing her shoes messily inside the shoe rack.
"Where are you going?" Abhigna questioned.
"Shower." Meenakshi spat, slamming the door to their bedroom.
"What's got her knickers in a twist?" Felix quoted, grinning awkwardly when Abhigna gave him a side eye.
"I don't know. She's acting like a bitch when she usually doesn't." Abhigna sighed.
"Well, I'll just leave these here. I better get back to the dorm, Minho might think I've abandoned him." Felix chuckled, leaving the plastic bag containing a few donuts on the counter.
"Are you kidding? You might as well get struck by lightning in this weather. Stay the night, or at least till the rain dies down." Abhigna reasoned.
"But the dean..."
"Oh so girls can stay in a guy's dorm all night, but we can't have you over? That's fucking dumb." Abhigna scoffed, crossing her arms.
"Alright, I'll stay, and we can do homework together. But I don't have my computer."
"You can use mine, I'm mostly finished with all of mine anyways." Abhigna and Felix seated themselves on the couch, exchanging a small smile before she handed him her computer. Reaching for her phone, she scrolled through her Spotify, satisfactorily choosing her playlist meant for the situation: 'study dates with him'.

Peeling herself out of her clothes, Meenakshi rushed inside the shower, itching for a cold shower. It was out of character for her, but the few moments in the rain sent her heart aching for the feeling it gave. Turning on the knob, her limbs shivered under the burn under the freezing ice water dumping on her. Yet she stood there, slowly breathing before the feeling became numb, before she became numb. Picking up the translucent orange soap bar, she let its soapy lather on her sweaty skin, skin that had heated due to her anger.
She didn't even understand why she was so angry, but she understood, deep down, this was her bursting. With one quick breath, she faced the shower, letting the water run over her closed eyes and over the face wash. Shivering, she stood under the water for another minute, before quickly turning the knob in the other direction. The water receded, and soon a fluffy towel wrapped around her chest, soaking in all the cold water and replacing it with warmth and comfort.
Finally exiting the bathroom in sweats and a t-shirt, she noticed the door was slightly open, maybe from the harsh way she had slammed the door and it had just bounced back a little. Peering outside, she let her eyes wash over the sight of Abhigna and Felix, chatting away about math and Outer Banks, snacking on some donuts. Meenakshi smiled, before leaving her position at the door.
She knew that she wasn't being replaced of any sorts, yet it stung, how she had abandoned her best friend and was now standing in a whirlpool of unwanted feelings. She was simply all alone, too scared to ask for help.
