Ena's hands shook as he knocked on Kanade's door. This is stupid... I shouldn't be crying over this.
The doors opened hastily. "Enanan? What's wrong?" Kanade asked, pulling Ena's face down to hers.
Ena stayed silent as Kanade lead him inside. Kanade led Ena to her room, closing the door behind her and sitting them both on the bed.
Kanade grasped Ena's hand. "What happened?" She rubbed her thumb over Ena's skin.
"It was my dad."
Kanade's body language immediately changed. She squeezed his hand lightly, "What did he do?"
Ena looked away. She hated the topic of her father. He was a shitty person, he was never there. Never around.
He was never around because he was always cheating. Ena never understood why her mom never left him until she overheard a conversation her mom had. Money. She was married to him for money. For Ena and Akito.
She wanted the two to have more than she ever had before. Phones, friends, hobbies, anything, leading her to give away her happiness for the other two to have theirs.
The story left Kanade nauseous. The look on Ena's face was nothing but devastation.
Ena's mouth felt dry, a disgusting taste on her tongue even without the use of drugs.
Kanade hesitated for a moment before turning Ena's head to face her. "Um, I'm not good with words but I know these words are true."
" What..?"
" Your mother stayed all that time for you guys, and it probably made her miserable."
" Kanade this isn't helping at all. "
" But, I think that watching you start to do music and get better at art made her happy."
Ena stared in shock. Kanade noticed her silence and continued.
" I know I'm usually the one to save people with my music, but I know that you saved your mom. You shined a light that she needed on her."
"Kanade..."
Kanade wiped her tears onto her jacket. "That probably didn't make any sense. What would a girl with no family know about family?" Kanade asked sarcastically.
Ena grabbed Kanade's arm, pulling her into a hug. " No, that was amazing. Thank you, Kanade."
Kanade squeezed Ena tightly as if Ena would disappear if she were to let go. Ena smiled.
