The Affair

Chapter 11.2

As William and Fallon were together in his office, William's wife, June, was in the elevator and making her ascent up to the office to surprise him for lunch. After a few stops, the elevator reaches the firm and June steps out into the office lobby. Seeing June step her way, Rebecca happily waves and calls her over.

"Mrs. Reiner, looking beautiful as ever!", Rebecca cheers from the reception desk, "How're you?".

Enjoying the warm welcome, June leans on the counter of the reception desk as she responds "Hey Rebecca! I'm good. Though I'd be a heck of a lot better if it weren't so hot out, ugh!". The two ladies then pause for a quick chuckle before continuing their small talk. "Anyway, I came by to surprise Will for lunch. I take it he's locked away and working in his office?", she asks, already knowing the answer.

Rebecca nods. "That's Mr. Reiner.".

"Yep, that's my husband.", June agrees, tapping her hand against the countertop, "Well, I'll let you get back to it. It was great seeing you.".

Answering an incoming call, Rebecca waves good-bye to June as she saunters away. Eager to see her husband, June briskly makes her way towards his office. Before she reaches his office door, she hears someone calling her name from the cubicle to her right. Distracted, she looks over and sees Amy trotting her way.

"Oh my god! Mrs. Reiner, how are you!?", Amy excitedly asks, approaching June.

June pauses for a moment, trying to put a name to the familiar face. "Oh, um... Amy, right?", she asks, mostly sure that she had the name right, "I'm good, and you?".

"I'm great, thanks for asking! Sorry, I just wanted to say hi. You look amazing, by the way.", Amy says, trying to get the niceties out of the way before moving on with her ploy.

June smiles. "Ah, thank you.".

Amy's brow twitches, slightly vexed that June did not return her compliment. Setting that aside, she moves on with the conversation. "Hey, so has Mr. Reiner told you about his new assistant?", she asks.

"New assistant?", June response, curiously tilting her head, "What happened to Bailey?".

"Oh, she resigned some time ago. Her husband got some big fancy new job, she said she didn't need to work anymore. Lucky girl... Anyway, Mr. Reiner's new assistant's name is Fallon.".

"Huh... He didn't tell me that he got a new assistant.".

"Tsk-tsk, Will. Keeping your little pet a secret from your wife?", Amy thinks to herself, intrigued by the little details she was uncovering.

"No? That's surprising. She's been here since April. They've gotten pretty close, it seems that they work well together... She's in his office right now, so you can meet her...", Amy says, trying to keep her amusement hidden.

June purses her lips under an inquisitive stare. "Uh-huh... How close?", she asks.

"Let's just say... I wouldn't trust her around my husband...", Amy replies, holding eye contact.

"I'll keep that in mind...", June mutters, stepping away to head towards her husband's office.

Thoroughly pleased with herself, Amy watches as June walks away. "Please do...", she says, a vindictive smirk playing upon her lips.

With Amy's subtle warning on her mind, June makes her approach to William's office but stops just a few feet from the door, seeing the door handle turn. The door then opens and Fallon steps out from her husband's office, wiping her mouth with her hand.

"Ah, so this little girl must be Fallon.", June thinks to herself, feeling slightly threatened.

Looking Fallon up and down, she makes note of her wardrobe: a tight and short grey office skirt with a plaid design, a fitted navy-blue polo shirt, a pair of white skinny 3-inch heels, a black headband in her hair, and a thin black choker necklace. Seeing Fallon in her cute little office outfit, June could not help but feel a little bit insecure about her own lazy clothing choice.
