And Once Again I'm a Disappointment

"You're okay to watch Estelle for the day, right Percy?"

"Yeah, yeah I got it under control...wait a second,oh no..."

Now before we continue, perhaps I should introduce myself:

Hi there, my name is Percy Jackson. Look, I didn't want to be a screw-up so let's take a look at my situation, shall we? I am going to assume you know what I am, who the love of my life is, my strong dislike for chihuahuas and pink poodles...so let's get to the stuff you don't know. Annabeth is busy remodeling Olympus and building new altars for the minor gods with Jason. Her dad realized she was spending all her time in New York so he got an apartment in Manhattan. They haven't finished moving in yet because Bobby and Matt already started school in California so it's just Annabeth in New York. She is over so often, I'm surprised Mom didn't adopt her. She's already my dad's niece's daughter and I really don't want to add sister to the list of incest in my family. Mom already took in Nico when she found out that he didn't have a home. Sometimes I wonder what would happen if she heard the backstories of everyone at camp. Lately that side of the family has actually started to feel and act like a family? I mean, it's a family where we have to dance around ancient rules to give their kids small gifts like shoes, makeovers, blackmail, a llama, and most surprisingly a seashell. So still not a healthy family but it is a start! As for the camps and the rest of the seven, we meet up at least twice a week. If you forget to visit, may the fates ever be on your side because you will have roughly 200+ kids hunting you down in fear that some monster came along and gobbled you up. You should have seen Leo when he missed a couple of Iris-messages because he was working in his mechanic shop, and this was after we knew he was alive again. Anyway, back to how I messed up big time.

Mom turned, looked at me, cocked her eyebrows and used her listen-here-young-man-voice, "What do you mean 'oh no'? You made an obligation to watch Estelle tonight so Paul and I could go out and you will keep it." I knew right away that this isn't going to end well, there is no way that I can win the argument against my Mom.

Paul must have heard the commotion, because he walked in the room with Estelle in his arms, fast asleep. He could either be my savior or doom me to babysitting duty. I can face armies of monsters, earn the respect of a man-despising goddess but I still can not face the wrath of my two tired parents. Paul naively asked, "What seems to be the problem here?"

"No problem, none at all. It's just that I had plans to go to camp tonight that I can NOT back out of and I can't bring Estelle with me. A baby with a bunch of heavily armed demigods who often punch and throw daggers at me for fun on a daily basis! What can go wrong?!" I didn't even notice I was pacing until Mom put her hand on my shoulder and told me to calm down.

"You're just overreacting, besides Annabeth and Nico will be there and it's about time Stella met the rest of the seven. They would love to get to know her."

"She's a mortal and I am a monster-magnet! What if-"

"Percy, as much as you want to keep Estelle out of the mythological world, you can't. And besides, it's only one night!"

Surrrrre Paul, nothing eventful can happen in one night. I couldn't think of another excuse before Estelle was in my arms and Mom and Paul were out the door. Stupid journalism convention. Stupid dinner.
