The Conjuring
Part One—Chapter One

"IT SCARES US JUST THINKING about it. When you hear it, you're gonna think we're insane." Debbie said, sitting on the couch in the apartment she lived in with her friend, Camilla.

Try us." Dalton responded, sitting on the couch across from them with the Warrens on his right.

"Please, from the start." Ed encouraged, clicking the on button for the recorder in front of him.

"It started out small," Debbie began, "Like a hand or a leg was in a different position. Then it's head was looking up instead of down. And then one day, it was in a completely different room. It was moving around by itself."

"Ever think that maybe somebody had a key to your apartment and was just playing a trick on ya?" Ed asked. He was always skeptical at first until something was proven.

"That's exactly what we thought. But never once did we find any sign or evidence of intrusion." Debbie explained as Camilla nodded.

"And this all led you to believe that the doll was possessed?" Lorraine asked as Ed and Dalton exchanged looks.

"Yes." The girls said in unison, both of their faces full of fear.

"Camilla got in touch with a medium. We learned from her that a seven-year-old girl named Annabelle Higgins had died in this apartment. She was lonely and took a liking to my doll. All she wanted was to be friends." Debbie said and as she talked Dalton looked at his shoes and shook his head, knowing this demon had other motives.

"When we heard this, we felt really sorry for her. I mean, we're nurses, we help people. So we gave her permission to move into the doll." Camilla sighed, releasing how crazy her words sounded as she heard them come from her mouth.

"Wait, you did what?" Ed asked, slightly appalled and giving the same look that Dalton had given.

"She wanted to live with us by inhabiting the doll. We said yes." Camilla said, gesturing to the ominous doll that sat on the chair, almost overlooking their conversation. Dalton stared at the doll, sighing deeply as its eyes seemed to look through his soul. He forced himself to look away as Debbie spoke up.

"But then things got worse." She said, then went on to explain the whole story.

"We are beyond terrified." She said after telling them the story. "We don't know what's going on or what to do. Can you help us?"

"Yes, we can." Dalton said before Ed added to it.

"Now, firstly, there's no such thing as Annabelle, and there never was."

"Ghosts don't possess such power. I think what we have here is something extremely manipulative. It's something inhuman." Lorraine explained and Dalton nodded in agreement.

"It was a big mistake acknowledging this doll. And through that, the inhuman spirit tricked you. You gave it permission to infest your lives." Dalton said.

"What's an inhuman spirit?" Camilla asked.

"It's something that's never walked the earth in human form. It's something demonic." Dalton answered and the two girls froze.
