We spent all morning watching movies and eating snacks, it wasn't until I noticed the clock in my sitting room read 2:45 that I remembered I was supposed to see Steve today. I sigh slightly at my forgetfulness. I felt bad as Steve had sounded disappointed that I was too busy to talk on the phone last night. I'll have to see him on Monday and apologise for my goldfish brain.Eddie glances at me from his side of the sofa as if he just realised my eyes were no longer fixated on the screen. "Are you okay?" He questions placing his hand gently on my leg.
Immediately heat rises from the area and a smile graces my lips. "I'm okay Eddie just realised I forgot about something." I shrug it off. "Do you want to go out and do something. My eyes are getting funny from the tv"
Eddie nods his head and looks at the screens as the end credits begin to roll. "Yeah but I'll have to go afterwards to practice before tonight's gig."
I nod in understanding as I start to tidy up the empty packets from around us. Eddie switches off the TV. Soon we are getting ready to go out.
We walked out towards town deciding to find something indoors to occupy our boredom. After about 15 minutes of wondering around chatting with Eddie, his face lights up like a kid on Christmas morning.
" I know what we should do Avery." Before I can even respond, Eddie grabs my hand and pulls through the glass door illuminated by the bright red 'ARCADE' sign.
I giggle slightly at his excitement but quicken my pace to keep up with the boy. We head straight to coin dispenser while I propose an idea to Eddie, " whoever wins on the most games gets to pick how we spend the tickets?"
He laughs and looks over his shoulder at me. "I'm a pro at these games, you have no chance."
I laugh at his enthusiasm. "Well Eddie, maybe I'm some what of a pro myself." I roll my sleeves up dramatically showing him it's game on.
He grins at me as he grabs my arm pulling me straight to an aim and shoot game with toy guns. I smile and insert a coin to make the targets move. Eddie takes a shot on the screen only to slightly miss as the piece moves past his bullet. I grin and take my shot hitting it dead centre causing Eddie's eyebrows to raise.
" I used to spend a lot of time here, my dad worked down the road." I mumble the last past and Eddie nods as he line up his next shot. He hits the target and pumps his fist in the air.
By the end of the game I had beaten Eddie by only 1 point. We swiftly moved onto a wrestling game that Eddie swiftly won.
A few hours and countless attempts to cheat and distract the other person we had gotten to the last game. We were drawing 11 games each. However we'd left the game we were both worst at to last. Basketball.
Eddie slows with every step we take towards the hoop set up in the corner. "I don't like basketball." He grumbles in annoyance. "It's a stupid game where people get points for shooting balls into laundry baskets. I don't understand why it's so loved."
I shrug my shoulders as I respond. "I've never seen the appeal when it comes to any sport. I tolerate watching it a lot better than playing it though." I joke thinking back to my embarrassing show of skill in our last PE lesson.
We get to the hoop and Eddie holds his arm out in front of me. " ladies first."
I giggle. "You're only being a gentleman because you want to put off playing for as long as possible."
He shrugs. "Or maybe I just am a gentleman."
"You basically shoved me across the room to play Pac-Man first."
