On October 1st 1943, 43 women around the world unexpectedly gave birth. Fascinatingly, all of these girls appeared to never have been pregnant at all. Sir Reginald Hargreeves- world-famous billionaire, inventor and traveller adopted as many of these children as possible.
He got seven of them.
Now these ordinary-looking children with astounding and remarkable abilities were quick to receive fame from the public. They were cherished and praised and famously understood by society as potential everyday heroes fighting against crimes against there city with pride and resilience. However, because of the large amount of noticeability towards the Hargreeves siblings, many fans quickly became rather obsessed about these peculiar children adorning unique powers. To them it was a conspiracy. A question left unanswered. A secret. I mean, how was it that 43 randomly chosen women around the world had suddenly given birth even when not pregnant? And because of that catastrophe how did it cause these children to posses forces the human race believed to be fictional for so long?
Frankly it sounded impossible. A fairytale of sorts hidden away in the depths of reality. Yet somehow it was true. Somehow it was managed one way or another. These equations had peeked the interest of a very intelligent and formal man. A man who destined himself to learn and understand every secret that the world could possible offer the human race, and these children only predicted his future:
Dr A Johannes.
As soon as the news about these children broke out he was intrigued. He was curious yet confused, as he was a man of science and evidence, not of make-believe or creativity. He stuck to the hardcore breakthroughs about the world that could be backed up by facts and verification. But now it appeared he had bigger things to understand.
For months on end he studied these children from afar. He used absolutely anything he got his hands on in order to delve deep into this world of magic. He studied news articles and books, listened to every single podcast about the Hargreeves siblings and there strange births, and even was able to collect news interviews directly from the traumatised mothers about there moments in agonising labour. All of his travels and studies to no avail. It made absolutely no sense. Nothing could be pieced together to indulge any sort of sense or even an actual answer. It was a complete and utter mystery. However, Johannes vowed to himself not to give up. He promised himself that he would figure out how to posses such a possibility to create his very own children with such a powerful ability. Because Dr Johannes wasn't just fascinated about the Hargreeve children: he was perplexed. Constantly perplexed enough to realise that the only way to truly know the secrets of these mysterious children was to create one of his own. He understood the dangers, consequences and patience it took to overcome the precautions of what he planned to do, but to Dr Johannes, this was the only way. The only way to uncover secrets far beyond than he'd ever thought, and he very well knew it would not be easy. First and foremost, he would need a subject. A child. A child sustainable to stay alive through absolutely any experiment it endured in order to produce an ability.
Dr Johannes was quickly able to get his hands on eight innocent children from an orphanage located on the other side of the city. He nurtured them, cared for them, and educated them before slowly but surely beginning his experiments- each one more potent than the last. He would study there brainwaves, collected samples of there DNA, injected them with dangerous liquids that gave each child a painful side effect. Over the years he invented his own techniques to create more stronger experiments he could put his children through. Every time he got close to a breakthrough however, a drastic turn of events would occur, and accidents were furthermore prone to happening. Three children had lost there lives to Dr Johannes experiments, two had life long injury's- mentally and physically- due to there constant sufferings, and were later taken into psychiatric care.
Although he cherished and sometimes praised his children for doing so well in improvement towards his goal, he would still worry about losing them that he often lost himself through his own experiments, but he'd never ever show it. There was one child however, that had peaked his interest after successfully completing one task after the other. One that gave him hope of achieving his dream he wished so long ago. She had long, dark brown hair, hazelnut-coloured eyes, and was a little shorter than the rest of her brothers and sisters. When Dr Johannes had arrived at the Orphanage and had begun to to observe the children, he was soon mesmerised by a small 7-year-old girl sitting quietly in the lounge room indulged in a rather large fictional book. After approaching her and having somewhat of a conversation with the kid, he learnt that her birth name was Maeve and that she was rather intellectual and imaginative for her age.
Now and again he would sometimes nickname Number 8 by her real name as it would often show how much fonder he was about the girl rather than her brothers and sisters. After all, she appeared to have more potential than the rest. He would often challenge the girl a lot more than the others, and was amazed and impressed whenever she would conclude success. In his mind, Maeve was the perfect daughter to him in every way possible. Fortunately, after years and years of drastic experiments and patience, Dr Johannes had finally achieved what he had long been searching for. The three last remaining children- Number 4 (Asher), Number 1 (Nolan), and Number 8 (Maeve)- had gained powers far beyond the control of an ordinary human, consisting of Telekinesis (8), Healing (1), and Pyrokinesis. (4).
These newly gained abilities were quickly strengthened and used to each of the children's capability and control to the point where if possible, they could easily kill another mortal. They were far stronger than Dr Johannes could've ever predicted, and so he praised each one of his three remaining children with pride.
And after years of experimenting and four months of pressured and dedicated training, the siblings were finally ready to face the public in a presentable fashion. Throughout the years Dr Johannes had studied the Hargreeve siblings- more commonly known to the public eye as the Umbrella Academy- and had quickly picked up on how they appeared in everyday life by fighting back against crime and saving residents all over the city. There more recent fight was defending a bank from an armed, attempted robbery indulging several thousand dollars and also vandalism.Soon the perfect opportunity would arise and allow his children to be uncovered from the world and cherished by millions, hopefully overthrowing the Academy one day of the chance was given. If not, they could always dispose of them...
