(( this is not the happy chapter ;)))
Max and Lucas were in Mikes basement, dustin was upstairs sleeping on the wheelers couch. Mike was still in California with Will and el. That left dustin, max, and Lucas in Hawkins. Safe to say, it was lonely. Really lonely.
It was night, the moons light shined through the hopper window. It gave the room an eerie feeling. She was laying on the opposite side of the couch from Lucas. Just looking around gave her the chills. She clenched her eyes shut, trying to go to sleep, but she couldn't get the picture of vecna outside of her head.
She sat up,shoving her foot into Lucas's back, "Lucas?" She whispered quietly "you up?" She asked him. He leaned up slightly, averting his eyes to look at the time on a clock. "Yes, max, I'm up. What do you need? It's like 3 AM" he stated, rubbing his eyes to adjust to the lighing. "I'm- nothing." She laid back down. She wasn't going to outright say she was scared, he'd think different of her, see her as weak.
He sat up, looking at her. "No max, not nothing. You wouldn't wake me up for no reason, just tell me." He stared at her, wanting her to admit something. She rolled her eyes, how did he know so much about her? "Lucas. It's nothing. Just go back to sleep." She rested her head on the side of the couch, staring at the cracked hall closet. She swore she saw a pair of eyes staring back at her. She leaned further back into the couch, trying to not be afraid.
"Can I lay with you?" She asked, it was better than telling him she was scared. Problem solved. Lucas's eyes went slightly wide, then returned to normal. "Sure?" He said slowly, as if he was unsure of his answer. She sat up, crawling over beside him, leaning into his chest. Her trance had been earlier that day, she was still scared.
"I'm sorry. Something just feels off." She looked up to Lucas, memories flooded her mind of the past, but she just brushed them aside. "Max. I know this might not be the best time to talk about.... Well, yknow. This. But you're all I ever wanted. You couldn't do anything wrong. There's no reason to be sorry." He looked down at her, soaking in her appearance.
A small blush creeped onto her face, but it wasn't visible due to the lighting. She was still haunted by the thoughts in her head. Lucas's love couldn't fix that. "You say you love me," she started off, staring into his eyes. "No matter what you say, there's only one of two ways that this is going to end.." she trailed off, her heart stung, she was going to die sooner or later.
"Someone dies or someone gets hurt." She ended off her sentence, trying to tell Lucas quickly so it wouldn't be on her mind for the rest of the night. Lucas expression changed, his brows furrowed. "But if one of dies... I hope I die first." She avoided eye contact, they were drowning in silence at this point.
He put his hand on her cheek, "but I don't want to live without you." He was hoping his words would help her, make her feel closure, help her. " Lucas- I just can't. I don't ever want to learn how to fall asleep without you." Lucas took her chin, forcing her to look at him in the eyes. "Lucas, tell me what's worse. Losing me now or later?" She stared at him, scared of her own words.
"Maybe i can break the curse, and we can be in love forever." He had hope in his words. Hope that they could break maxs curse and let her live her life with him in it. "If I die-" max started off, but Lucas just cut her off. "You're my fire, what keeps me going. My safety." He pulled her into a hug, which she accepted. "I never meant to hurt you Lucas." She said, her voice slightly muffled by the hug. "You didn't." He rubbed circle's into her back.
She was afraid, someday everybody's going to leave. And it's going to be her they leave behind. "I promise I'll stay." Max said, but she couldn't find truth in her own words. "That's not a promise you can make.." Lucas replied, it was true. She couldn't make that promise to even herself.
Someone dies or someone gets hurt, but if one of them died, Max hoped she died first. She couldn't bare to live without Lucas, learning to fall asleep without him would be her breaking point. She physically and mentally couldn't live without him. She wondered what was worse, losing herself now or later. She hoped they could break the curse, so they could be in love forever.
They hugged for what felt like forever, she didn't want to let go, knowing this moment could be her last. "Max.. I love you." Lucas muttered under his breath, she barely head it. "I.. I love you too, stalker." She looked at him, he gave her a quick kiss on the forehead before she buried her face back into his chest.
So there, they fell asleep on the couch together, in each other's arms. The body heat between the two kept them warm.
(It's kind of short for today, 900 words isn't a lot compared to what I usually write which is 1600-2500 words. Hope i can make it up to you all within the next few chapters. anyways, sorry for talking more than usual. Have a nice day and remember you are loved and cared for. )
