Kysons pov:

A squeak left my lips as Achilles grabbed the collar of my shirt. He slammed me against the wall with such force I was scared the wall would crack.

I could feel the back of my collar digging into my neck.
"Don't. Ever. Talk. About. Her!" He grits through his teeth harshly.
My body froze. This was the first time I had made him upset. I had pissed off the bad guy.
I finally got to see his emotions and his feelings.

Instead of the numb, cold, and sarcastic person I usually got—the one who used threats to cover his emotions.

Achilles wasn't afraid to kill me. He wasn't afraid to cause harm. He was the bad guy.

"Do you fucking hear me?" His voice was slightly louder. It made me jump. I began to nod aggressively.

"Good." He spits as he throws me to the ground. With force, my head slammed back onto the wall with a loud noise.

"Fuck..." it made me hiss as I grabbed my head, trying to soothe the throbbing pain.

My eyes began to swell with tears, but I wasn't going to let them fall.

"Ah, shit..." I heard Achilles mumble softly, yet it was clear that it wasn't intended for me to hear.

He watched me from a distance as I pushed myself off the ground. My vision spun slightly as I stumbled backward, leaning against the wall. Achilles stepped out to catch me if I fell, indicating that it may be small, hell, it may be microscopic, but he does...in fact...care about me...

His gaze was focused on the ground before he mumbled.

"She was murdered. That's all you need to know." He mumbled.
My stomach dropped.

Now I understood why he became protective.
"I-I'm sorry..."

"I don't want your pity..." he grumbled, turning cold, not bothering to look at me.

I hummed as I pushed off the wall, walking over to him. "What about your dad?"

"I never knew him. It was always my mom and me, just us. All over the world..." he smiled as he talked about her.

"She was a lot like me. She could never care about other people's thoughts. As she always told me, not to change for others. She wanted to protect me, at least that's what I was told...I blamed myself a lot when I was younger..." he spoke softly. I saw tears threaten to fall. He quickly wiped his eyes, shoving all emotions far away.

"Is her death the reason you are so cold?"
I knew that question might have been too far, but I hate how he continues to hide his emotions from me.

His gaze snapped to me. His hands tightened to fists at his side.

"I'm done talking with you. Get out of here, princey." He growled, clearly irritated.

I was not too fond of the feelings that burned my insides, the sensation that pulled me towards him. Even apart, it was like I could feel his emotions.

"Achilles...you can trust me...you know that, right?"

"No, I can't." He snapped at me before walking toward me as I stepped back.

He walked me to the door, trying to intimidate me out of the bedroom.

"I don't trust anyone because that would include getting close to you, and I don't get close to anyone."
The words cut him painfully.
For some unknown reason, I just wanted to be close to him. I'd risk my whole kingdom for him.

"I-okay..." I whispered, glancing down at the ground. I quickly rushed out of the room with tears brimming my eyes.

I crashed into someone as I rushed through the hallways. They grabbed my forearms as I glanced up to see my close friend Malik.

We've been friends since kids, as his family doesn't live far. His parents were friends before we were. We were basically siblings. His mom, Hallie, is a witch.
His dad, Christian, was thankfully a warlock, but in my opinion, Hallie is stronger.

"What the fuck is your deal?" He chuckled, and I exhaled dramatically.

"Finally, it's been forever. Where the fuck have you been?"
His family lives with us because Christian is my dad's, right-hand man.
But they haven't been around lately.

I hugged Malik tightly. "There's been an accident a few kingdoms over. My mom was helping restore some things, so we all went to help." He had the softest brown eyes and darker skin. Malik was strong. He had a defined body. It was hard to be a witch or warlock. They were looked down upon, even the powerful ones, so he would train with me since we were required to know how to fight even as kids.

"You missed so much!" I exhaled loudly.

"We can go up to my room and cuddle? You can fill me in." He smiled at me softly as his hands fell to my waist, pulling my slimmer body towards him.

"W-well...I don't know if I can..." I whispered. His face fell.

"Why? What do you mean, Ky?"
His hands slowly left my waist. Leaving a cold void where his warm hands were.

"T-theres a guy..." I whispered.

"Ooooo, has my Ky baby finally found someone?" He teased.

"W-well, h-he's here."

"Oh! Can I meet him?" His face brightened with excitement.

"H-he's uhm...a bad guy... and he's only here because I wanna change him..." I whispered the last part lowly.

"You would understand, I-I think there's some s-spell pulling us together..." I furrowed my eyebrows as I looked at the ground.

"Oh...weird...well, can I meet him? I might get a better idea." He hummed.

"H-he's uhm, the masked shadow..." I whispered as Malik gasped.

"Fuck no! H-he's here?" He stuttered and shook his head.

"He's not that bad..."

"Ky! There are stories of him killing innocent children...for no damn reason!" Malik began to shout at me.

"But there's no proof it was him!"
I growled. It made me frustrated because it was true. There was no proof. Everyone just assumed.

"Did you wanna meet him?" I spoke softly.
Malik instantly shook his head aggressively, his thick curls bouncing.

"Meet who?" The deep voice echoed behind me.

"M-masked...s-shadow..." Malik stuttered. I turned around to face the taller man, with his black mask covering his beautiful face.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw him.
"Masked shadow at your service." He bowed dramatically.

A guard came rushing down the hall.
"Prince Kyson! We're under attack! And they have prisoners." He panted as my face fell.

I rushed over to the window as the sound of faint voices could be heard.

There were small children with chains all around them. They were trying to attack. There were many of them.

I turned over to Achilles...did...he do this...?
