𝐌𝐀𝐘𝐀 𝐀𝐍𝐃 Maisie had to have been walking in the woods for hours. Maya was hungry and thirsty and begged Maisie to let them have a break. Maisie being the stubborn person she is, denied her multiple times. Maya grew fed up and groaned loudly.

"Please, Maisie. We've been at it for hours." She said, stopping in her tracks. She thought Maisie was agreeing when she had seemed to stop too.

Maisie turned around to Maya with her finger in front of her mouth and turned back around to scan the woods. Maya walked closer to Maisie with a confused but disgusted look on her face. Her face was practically screaming you're acting really weird.

After a couple of seconds of this Maya finally spoke, "What's wrong? Why are you acting so weir-"

Maisie cuffed her palm over Maya's mouth and that made Maya flinch back in Suprise. She is either seeing things because she's hungry as fuck, or she is crazy Maya told herself inside of her head.

Maisie turned her head to the left and then there was a sound. Noises are a normal occurrence in the forest, especially when dinosaurs are wandering around--but this was a human sound. A sound of a twig snapping and a man cursing at his mistake.

This set both of them on their flight or fight mode. But it affected Maisie more because she immediately jolted forward, removing her hand from Maya's mouth and gripping it onto her arm.

"OW!" Maya yelped from the force of Maisie dragging her forward like a dog running away from its owner but still having a leash attached to its neck.

Maisie pulled Maya behind a tree pulling her body close to hers so that they would not be seen sticking out from the width of the tree. Their faces were practically centimeters away. Maisie didn't notice this because she was too busy looking to the right looking for any signs of people.

Maya sure as hell did notice this because she was staring at Maisie, her eyes wide, jaw dropped slightly. Okay, Maya. Calm down. Focus. Not the time. She closed her eyes and let out a slow breath. Maisie turned back to Maya and saw her freaking out.

"Maya," Maisie whispered. Maya opened her eyes and mumbled something to herself that was inaudible.

Maisie's eyes flickered down to her lips but directed her vision back to Maya's blue eyes, "you alright?"

"Yeah... I'm-I'm good." She smiled, not making eye contact.

It seemed like they had lost the man in Maisie's opinion, so she let her grip on Maya go and took a step backward. God that was... weird why the fuck did I freak out? Maisie put her hand on her forehead but ignored her thoughts and started to walk again.

Maya sighed, her cheeks still burning. "Come on-----I'm hungry." she walked with her.

"Here." Maisie pulled some berries out of her pocket and held them out.

"The things I'd do to eat some normal junk food." She took the berries and stuffed them in her mouth, holding back her gag. "So, what happened back there."

"Nothing happened." Maisie didn't even look at Maya. She was confused. Not about the stupid dude who probably was going to murder them, but the way she felt when she looked at Maya's lips. It was like her lips were calling to Maisie's. No. nope. I'm not- I-

"Earth to Maisie," Maya waved her hand across Maisie's face. "I was talking about that creepy dude who was clearly stalking us."

Maya meant to talk about the 'gay panic' moment that they just had been through, but Maisie looked like she was in no mood. I mean, a man was following them in the woods. That's on a whole other level of creepy, and here Maya was simping over her secret gay crush.

"Oh--yeah, that was probably just someone who was from the outpost or a survivor." She slid her hands into her pockets. God the silence is not helping. "Can we, I don't know talk about something else?"

Maya nodded slowly. "So do you think when we find your parents they'll help us find Henry and Kayla again?" She looked at the trees. Of course, they were. Maisie told Maya stories about her parents. She made them seem like they were saviors who flew down from Olympus.

Maisie didn't waste a second to reply, "yeah. Definitely. They are the best parents I could have asked for."

"What about you? I never hear about your parents, Maya." She added, keeping the conversation going.

Maya paused for a second. Her parents sucked. Her dad found her kissing a girl once and freaked the fuck out. He yelled so much that she could feel his lungs burning--her mom on the other hand did nothing. She just watched.

Maya's mom used to be the best when she was a kid. Before the outbreak, her mom and her used to take long walks and get ice cream after. It was their thing--and now? They barely even speak a word to each other.

"My parents wouldn't care. My mom and dad are deadbeats," Maya took a long breath in "after the whole dinosaurs rule earth thing they changed."

"Oh... I'm sorry for bringing it up." Maisie felt guilty now. She ripped open a bandage without knowing. How could she know right? But still--she could have put piece and piece together.

Maya tilted her head barely to the left, "don't be. You have a right to know. After all, we are going to be side by side forever."

"Forever?" Maisie chuckled.

"Forever," Maya responded while holding an invisible ring out. Maisie stuck her hand out and Maya slipped the ring on her ring finger.

"It's official, we are each other's forever" Maya announced with her hands waving dramatically.

"You sure like the word forever."

"Yeah, I guess I do." she admitted smiling, "probably because you are my forever, girl."

Maisie loved this girl. She was everything she hoped for, a funny yet caring person. Someone who could pick up the pieces if she broke. Someone who was there for her even though a hurricane or some crazy shit. Holy shit... I like Maya. I like Maya Andrews.
