Maria felt as though she just signed herself over to the devil on a silver platter. Did she make the right decision?

She couldn't even tell.

She walked lifelessly towards her apartment. President Kim is one of the most ruthless man she had ever encountered. She just hope he keeps to the end of his bargain.

Her head can't even begin to fathom why she is bringing the contract home with her. It was more like her being his slave than a mistress.

A mistress.

That is what she has reduced herself to right now and it's not something she is happy or proud to be.

As Maria approached her apartment she heard some commotions near her door. With a frown, she skipped to her unit only to find her door ajar.

She pushed through the crowd and what she saw inside her apartment was blood chilling. What the hell happened to her things?

Whore!

Her walls were painted with that one word. Her things were broken and her clothes torn and scattered across the room.

Maria felt as though her legs would give out on her. She felt dizzy for a moment.

"Never knew she was this shameless." She heard someone mutter from outside her door.

Women were gossiping and glaring at her while the men only sneered with disgust at her.

"The wife of her sugar daddy must have found out." Another person said

"Who knows how many home she had destroyed. I tell you they are not decent all these black women."

The words of her neighbors kept echoing in her head.

"Shameless!"

"You deserve what you got." Someone spat.

Maria felt her eyes watered. She had never felt such humiliation in the whole of her life.

Just this morning, Mr. Jang had made her look like she had sugar daddy and then she had signed herself over to President Kim just to save the building and the  families living in it. And now, someone thought to make her room look like a war zone?

She's tired. Maria felt her legs give out on her.

Why does things like this keep happening to her? And to think she hates dramatic movies because right now she wishes she is just acting.

As she sat on the floor, her eyes stumbled upon a picture frame with its glasses broken into shards.

The picture was of a woman and a child smiling. Maria picked up the picture from the frame and dusted it.

The woman continued to smile back at Maria.

"Be strong."

With that Maria stood up and slammed her door shut only for her to find that the bolt had been broken.

Maria laughed hysterically. Why is the door just similar to her life right now. She wants to shut everything down but her mental lock has been broken. She has been forced to leave the door to her heart ajar and take every nonsense.

Maria walked back into her house and started to pick out all the things not destroyed but there was nothing she could find.

All these things that were destroyed were her years of hard work. Years of pain, hunger and survival.

How could someone be so cruel to destroy them in just a day?

When she could find nothing worth saving, she gathered up her whole clothes and was about to dump them in the dustbin when she remembered one room in the house.
