Nandini was lying on her bed, but she was uncomfortable, her lower back was still hurting; it wasn't terrible, just a dull thud that made lying down difficult. She was thinking if she should ask the nurse to pull the headboard of the bed up, so she could sit; but the nurse came and did that even before she could ask. Then another attendant came and started to move her bed along with her drip, all the way out of the ICU.

"Hey where are you taking me?" she asked, surprised.

"To our private visitors room, we will bring you back once you are done meeting him, don't worry" the nurse assured her.

"But who am I meeting? Manik?" she asked again, surprised.

"One of the hospital trustees." she replied.

"Why?" Nandini asked even more surprised.

"I don't know ma'am; just doing my job here" the nurse replied again. Nandini was confused as she nodded.

"Nurse, at least can I get my phone, now that I am out of ICU?" she requested, the nurse obliged, who'd say no to the trustee's guest?

While she was being taken, Nandini flicked through her phone. She had some ten missed calls from Abhimanyu the night before, another six from Mukti, about twenty from Manik and a couple more from her friends present yesterday. She bit her tongue for causing so much trouble. There were a couple of texts from Abhimanyu asking where she was and then there was a text from him today morning too. Nandini frowned, didn't Manik talk to Abhimanyu yet?

[Nandz, where the hell have you disappeared since yesterday? I know you like spending time with Manik, but on my engagement??]

This was his last text message from yesterday; seeing this she laughed. Poor Abhimanyu, he had no idea. Then her smile got strained, she'd have to talk to him, she needed to tell him about yesterday; no one else, but him she felt she owed an answer to now, after all these years. But then her eyes fell on the text he sent out today.

[Nandz, call me when you see this; I had to rush to Jalandhar, dad had a minor stroke; don't worry he is fine, I am just going to check on him and be back in a day or two. Mukti doesn't know, I didn't want to stress her after yesterday's exhaustion. I will call her once I land, don't call her before that, she'd get mad at me for not telling her ;) Also please inform Manik too]

Nandini quickly typed back.

[Hey Abhimanyu, I am fine, I left early yesterday because I had a headache. Phone was on night mode – the story of my life. :D.. We will talk once you are back. Come soon. Nandz.]

Nandini was brought into a luxurious waiting room, it looked more like a lounge of a bar with a sophisticated design. The walls had glass panels, there was a bar on one side, a TV theatre on the other; plush couches and dim lighting, tastefully curated decoratives and the smell of musk. No, No. Cannot be, she told herself. That was his smell. What was he doing here?

It didn't take a minute more after her realisation, she turned to her right and there he was walking straight towards her bed. He sat himself on the couch placed next to her bed and looked at her. His face was unreadable. Soon an attendant ran and got him a scotch but he refused it; he asked for two cups of cappuccinos instead.

To say Nandini was flabbergasted, it would be an understatement, but she tried her best to mask it.

"I can't have caffeine; I am on medication" she replied stiffly, as he looked at her once before calling the attendant back.
