WE MAKE it back to the Byers' house and we unload our supplies from the trunk. I make sure to grab the axe that I snatched from the cop car and bring it inside with me. We set our supplies down inside and then start on the lights. We screw the Christmas lightbulbs back into place and plug them back into the wall. Jonathan secures the bear traps on the ground by hammering large nails into the floor. Nancy places the bullets into Jonathan's gun and Jonathan hammers nails into the top of a bat. I grab the gasoline and pour it in a line down the hallway. Nancy and Jonathan open the beartraps and Jonathan sets up a yo-yo.

Nancy and I stand in the living room while Jonathan runs to the kitchen to grab knives for us. He comes back out and we run through the plan.

"Remember..." Jonathan says.

"Straight into Will's room. And--" Nancy says.

"Don't step on the trap." I say.

"Wait for the yo-yo to move." Nancy says.

"Then..." Jonathan says, flipping open his lighter and then closing it.

"All right... you ready?" He asks.

"No way, but lets go." I say.

We all flip our left hands so our palms are facing up and then we place the edge of the knife blade in our hands.

"On three." Jonathan says. "One..."

"Two..."

I scrunch my face and close my eyes.

"You don't have to do this." Jonathan says.

"Jonathan, stop talking." Nancy says.

"I'm just saying, you don't have to—"

"Three." Nancy says quickly.

I slice my hand and I feel the burn and the hot liquid quickly filling up my hand. I open my eyes and we all freely let our hands bleed onto the rug before Jonathan walks away. He comes back with bandages and he hands me one. I try to wrap my hand up as quickly as I can and Jonathan and Nancy help each other with their bandages. As they are wrapping up their hands, the floor creaks.

"Did you hear that?" I ask.

Jonathan and Nancy look up and listen.

"It's just the wind." Jonathan says.

Nancy goes back to wrapping Jonathan's hand and I grab my axe and sit on a chair in the living room.

"Don't worry," I overhear Jonathan say to Nancy, "My mom, she said the lights speak when it comes."

"Speak?" Nancy asks.

"Blink. Think of them as alarms."

The room is silent for a moment and my mind spirals. I try not to think about death, but the possibility of it being an outcome is definitely weighing heavy on my mind. Suddenly, there is a frantic knock at the front door. We all gasp and then we hear the voice.
