Josh? Yes ma'am? A boy with dirty blonde hair, and blue eyes asked the principle. You're in the theatre aren't you? Yes ma'am. And theatre people are.... Would you say welcoming? And tolerate of change and peoples differences? She asked him. Yes ma'am. Good, you can go in my place.

Wait what? He asked her. Go where. To greet our new students in the basement. You want me to greet the zombies. Well someone has to might as well be the president of the theatre club. Yes, ma'am. He nods his head. Take these you'll need them she says handing him some notecards.

If you're late to your first class I'll write you a pass. Thank you principle Lee. He comes down and knocks at the door. Yes, come in? The teacher who was also the janitor calls. Hi guys, it's nice to meet you all. Nice to meet you too. Zed says to him. My name is Josh, he smiles scanning over at everyone.

I'm the theatre club president of our school and principle Lee was supposed to come down here and talk to you guys but she.... Had better things to do didn't she? Eliza questioned. Her words not mine Josh says awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck. Eliza come on give the boy a chance at least he's being nice to us.

I scold her. I hope you guys have a great first day of classes, welcome to Seabrook go mighty shrimp. If you need me or need to reach out to contact me at any point my name and number are on this years new student involvement package. I would've been last year but last year I was only a freshman. Oh, and I'm also a stand in extra spotter on the cheer squad should any of you girl zombies tryout for that, which is the only club I wouldn't recommend due to the captain of the team. But, also we need big tough guys on our football team since we've lost every game this past year and it sounds like every year for the last 20 years.

Principle Lee would not encourage you guys to join clubs and warn you not to even leave the basement but you're just as much a part of the school as everyone else, feel free to join any club you want, and I hope I see some of you joining in and trying out. BTW, should an emergency occur a loud noise will blare out and a red flashing light will well flash there is a zombie safe room upstairs 3 doors down on the left from the entrance. It's really meant for humans but feel free to use it anyways, and I hope to see you guys around.

Once he leaves, Zed and I decide that we're sneaking out to go and tryout for some of that stuff. This is perfect, that Josh guy said he wanted guys like me on the team and I wanted to tryout for that anyways. And you wanted to do theatre stuff what better way to do that then to become friends with the president of the club, besides I think he already likes you?!

Shut up Zed. I tease nudging him. He does not, nobody does. I shake my head with a frown. I do. You're my stepbrother and my best friend you have to like me. I roll my eyes. Zed be careful watch out I direct him as he stubs his toe on something hard, as we walk down the hallway. Then some football player type guys see us after someone hears his moans, and the alarm goes off.

Meanwhile Addison has made friends with cheer preppy Bree who were both planning on trying out that afternoon for cheer that Bree was busy freaking out about the zombie thing while Addison was telling her about the zombie shelter. She spotted Josh on his way, Zed and I had already gone in. Josh hey? How did the talk with zombies go? She asked him. Hey Addi, he waves at her, I'd say pretty good.

When they come inside the room there's a voice that tells us that the room was locked. And then Zed and I run around. Hello? Addison asks. Whose in here? Josh questions. Hello? She tries again, and then Zed tries to flirt with her. Ze-.... Sorry, it's just this isn't how I pictured my first day going. Shoved into a zombie safe room? Josh questions. Oh no we expected that. I *scuff*

It's just we're kind of having big days today, I was gonna tryout for the football team. Nice way to go. You must be a freshman then, both of you guys. And you two seem to know each other so you must be friends or siblings. A little bit of both, I tell them. I myself was gonna audition for the school play. I hear you may be able to help me with that. It's Josh right?

Really? We're having big days too or at least I am I'm trying out for the cheer squad, Josh is also my cousin's best friend. Something about that makes sense. Was he the guy talking to you on our way in? I question. Well.... Uh yeah. Bucky he's head of the cheer team, its a hard gig but I love it I've been doing this since as long as I can remember.

But, there's just something bothering me.... Oh but it's, its nothing.... Tell me more about you guys. Addison tells us. Well our dad doesn't think we'll make the team. Your dad, I mumble. Hey, he's your dad too has been for the last 14 years he mumbles back. You guys asked us if we were friends or siblings. Well he's my best friend and my step brother. My birth family didn't want me. My birth certificate says I have a twin sister but I bet she doesn't even know I even exist.

Come on I'm sure you'll totally make the team guys I mean all you guys need is someone to cheer you on and soon fingers crossed that will be like my job and besides Josh is the captain if you will of the theater team you'll have no problems there. What are your names? Josh asks us. Zed. Zed says. I'm Addison. Addison says. What about you what's your name? Should I give them my real name or the name I go by? I ask Zed.

Name we call you. He whispers back. It won't make much sense right now once the lights go back on, and please once they do don't be scared but my friends call me Ruby, or at least they would if I had any friends and it's the name I go by. Ruby, I'm your friend and so are Bonzo and Eliza. Zed scolds me again.

See that's the thing, Addison says my parents said something about this girl with blue skin, purple hair, and red eyes. Like they know her. Addison who are your parents? I question. The mayor is my mom. Are you an only child? As far as I know she shrugs. Now what's this about the lights and not being scared? Wait, you said Eliza, that's one of the zom.... The lights go on, guys duck Josh tells us.

Addi stop, he says catching her fist. Sorry, its just that my parents told me that zombies were hideous disgusting freaks, but you're not hideous at all. Addison tells us. Thanks, I guess we'll take what we can get. Thanks for not punching us, or rather me. Thanks for the heads up Josh. No problem guys.

It's just that my parents have never trusted a zombie ever since one bit my grandpa's ear off. Yeah well now we'll just talk your ear off. Zed teases. And right when things were getting good Bucky and the other cheer girls came in shooing us away and threatening us to stay away from Addison, and then directed her out of the room for cheer tryouts, while Josh apologized to us on his way out. Nice meeting you guys. He smiles at us. We're making progress. Zed says.

I-I think she's my biological sister. What makes you say that? The story all fits. Her parents know who I am. She thinks she was keeping something from them. It all makes sense. Besides in our faces we look like well genetics. I shrug. Yeah, even if it's true you still are and will always be my sister. He hugs me.
