That night I left my contacts out washed off the spray paint and left my wig off and let myself just be me for the night. It would either be the bravest or the stupidest thing I'd ever done. But Addison and James knew my secret and they had accepted me for me if only my parents could've done the same thing.
So, first impressions are everything it would be their first time coming here when they wanted to be here and James his first real time here at all. As I got ready for the night (outfit 5) and then met up with Zed to meet them at the gate. Addison was kind of freaking out but we were glad to see each other. You clean up well. I nodded at James. I can say the same to you, and you're your self tonight for once. James? I frown. I can't I shake my head. Not until zombies are accepted. Or we hope we will be we already are more or less but if everyone else saw me for how I was....
I don't look like a zombie or a human. My parents wanted nothing to do with me. No one knows that I exist, and none of you should either. They had any evidence of me destroyed! I'm biologically a human but I'm legally a zombie, Zed Zoey and I are not blood. My step dad is not my real dad, and when I turn 18 they can get rid of me, they didn't need to take me in.
My real family didn't want me there is no record of me James, I don't exist. They could've gotten rid of me they didn't need to take me in. But I was lucky they did and whether they truly really love me or not, I have grown to love them like family. Zed could only hear bits and pieces of what I was telling James but he was sad to hear what I had said as we made our way to the elevator.
Hey you ok? Addison asked him. He locked eyes with me holding his wrist. Cause you don't look so hot. Ouch! He laughed. No, not like that, you know what I mean. She told him. I needed to mess with my Z-band to help us win games. Isn't that dangerous? She asked him. If I don't we wouldn't win and we really needed a win.
And if we don't win Zombies and Farrah would never be accepted. Ruby. You can just call me Ruby I've gotten used to Ruby just like I've gotten used to this life, to your family. He frowned at me. Yeah, I know what you mean Addison told him. So this celebration is for you winning football games? She asked him. It's not just that, it's for Ruby's opening night tomorrow night for HSM.
In Zombieland we celebrate our differences and we don't let anyone tell us who to be or not to be. And we accept all and everyone that is different like Ruby. He gestured to me. I knew he would've called me his sister but he also knew I would've corrected him. It's almost like he was giving up. And hearing him not try to call me his sister broke a piece of my heart.
It always broke my heart to try and correct him because he and Zoey have always been like real brother and sister to me, but that was just a fact they weren't and I couldn't change that I wasn't really related to them. I knew I had a birth certificate somewhere because Addison had found it in the attic. Probably the only copy of my existence ever. But I couldn't let them see it had gotten to me, or let anyone see that anything anyone said ever got to me.
When we got to the party we told them about how we had 23 ways to say the word brains. And when Addison started teasing him about that Eliza showed up and told her that was offensive. And wondered why we had brought her here she didn't seem to have a problem with James but just like zombies theatre people in other words let their freak flag fly at least in zombie terms.
She kind of glared at me a little bit. After 15ish years she still didn't like me. And who can blame her?! Certainly not me. Hey it's starting. He said to me. Bonzo played the music as Eliza opened the fog and we ran off to start our dance
and about halfway through Addison and James started dancing with us and joining in and we had, had so much fun. And then I followed them after as we laughed having a good time and heard cheering. I pulled them back and stopped them. As I came around the corner stepping up behind her quietly. Wrapping my arms around her hugging her.
Ruby! You scared me she laughed hugging me back. Sorry kid. That was some great cheering Addison told her. But Zoey got embarrassed and scared begging Addison not to tell anyone that's what she was doing while trying to deny it. You're Zoey you're Zed and Ruby's sister. And you're Addison, you're my sister Ruby's real sister. Zoey? I frowned at her. And you're James you're in the play with my sister. You know I think you're old enough to have your own pet Addison told her. Stop teasing her you know zombies can't have pets.
No, no I'm sorry I didn't know I'm still learning that zombies are not at all what we were taught. Addison defended. Ruby? She called me raising her arms signaling she wanted me to pick her up. Up you go. I said setting her on my hip. You're growing up to be a big strong girl aren't ya? I smiled at her before booping her nose as she laughed. You're so good with her. I smiled at him and turned back to her. I'd sure hope so, she's my little sister after all.
I could never call Zoey just my step sister at least not to her face I'm all she knows, she knew me growing up with her she didn't get the chance to be her mom but she knew who Addison was. She must've overheard me talking to Zed about her. Hearing Zoey call Addison my "real" sister not just broke my heart but it was shattered now. But I didn't blame her, I had pushed them away and they had learned from it. And now I regretted it.
But I couldn't lie to myself, if I accepted that they weren't really my family it wouldn't hurt if they ever gave me away and after 15 years I kept waiting for it to happen, for no one to really want me since I really didn't belong anywhere. But anyone could see how much this family meant to me. Like you Eliza, you're smart cool and pretty. You think I'm pretty? Eliza asked her. And then Zed came into the room. There you are he said to us.
Zoey what are you doing here? He asked her. Coming over to us. He told me to put her down. But before I could she threw a fit. No, I want sissy to hold me. I gave him a weak smile. And sissy's holding you Zoey because sissy loves you. She only acted younger then she really was when she wanted something. And right now she wanted her big sister. Real or not. Besides I'm not gonna miss a zombie mash. No whose my good boy? She asked Zed.
I am he smiled at her acting like a dog. Good boy she pet him. When tried to take her from me I playfully growled and tried to pretend to bite him. Hey? Don't really try to bite me he laughed. Alright I'll take you home Eliza told her. I slyly smiled at her and pretended to growl at her and I swear for the first time Eliza smiled at me before jumping back from me. Don't bite me she wagged her finger at me. Bad doggy. Woof! Come on Zoey, let's take you home.
She tried again. No, I want Ruby. She wrapped her arms around my neck. Zoey, sissy has to stay here and make sure James and Addison get home alright. I reminded her. Hey Eliza, we should hang out some time. And I really like your boots she told her. And don't forget Zander, Addison told her handing it off to James as he gave it to her. But she still wouldn't go with Eliza. I worried if they didn't go soon something bad would happen.
Zoey? I whispered into her ear with a smile evident in my voice. I'm going to tickle you if you don't go home with Eliza. I mumbled to her and said rolled his eyes trying not to laugh. No bad doggy. Doggy's gonna eat you up I told her. No, she squealed reaching out for Eliza. Oh look at that now she wants you. I winked at Eliza. Thanks for the help. They're cool. She told us and so are you she said to me.
For a couple of humans right? Zed asked her. No, they're just cool. I had finally got Eliza's approval. Bye we waved after he. Bye she waved at us. Come on let's go. We led them to the zombie light garden as they looked at in awe and we told them what it was. This is my all time favorite spot. I smiled caressing the walls. Where are we going? Addison asked him. For a walk in the park. And right after the police came and we're swept away in the chaos but not before I tell James to go the long way around so that he won't get caught and to pretend you were coming from the theatre. With our opening show tomorrow during school before the football game it would be understandable for you to be there but I have to go I'm sorry but we're all out past curfew I tell him before taking off.
Addison and James are confused at hearing that word. But James does what I say and meets up with Addison on her way back home be escorted by Gus. As her parents scold her for sneaking out and wants to know what she was doing and then she says she was with a boy and her parents want to meet him before she can do anything with cheer ever again. And James parents are only upset with him that he was out so late and hadn't told anyone where he was or where he was going. And that they want to meet me.
And at Addison's.... She cries not because she's in trouble but because of the lies and secrets her parents have been keeping from her. How could you keep the truth from me?! She asks them angry. What are you talking about Addison? I met Farrah I met my sister! How do you know about her? Her parents ask her. I found the existence of her in the attic I found her birth certificate. How could you keep this from me?! How could you not tell me I had a twin sister?!
How could you not tell anyone in Seabrook you have another daughter? Getting rid of any of her existence? No one knows about her! And that's the way it's supposed to be Addison! Her mother yells at her. She was different, she didn't look human, she didn't even look like a zombie! She was like some kind alien, some kind of mutation. But she was still biologically your daughter, my sister! How could you keep this from me? How did you find out about her?!
She lies through her teeth talking about a family tree project and had gone into the attic searching for things. You had no right going up there! Her farther yells at her. And neither of you had the right to keep my sister from me! And I'm different too! But if we don't talk about then it doesn't exist? Doesn't it?! She cries angry tears. Addison had always been a good girl did everything her parents told her never argued or fought or talked back.
I met her at school! She looks like a zombie now. But she doesn't belong there. And she doesn't belong here either! Her mother scolds. How can you say that? Just because you get rid of her and you get rid of any proof of her doesn't mean she doesn't exist. It doesn't mean that she's biologically your daughter. She's nice and beautiful and accepting, and smart but she believes that she doesn't belong anywhere and that her step family isn't her family just because she's not their blood. She doesn't think anyone wants her.
You never even gave her a chance! She was a baby a few hours old. And you threw her away without giving her a chance. She uses pale skin safe spray paint over her skin and a wig to cover her hair and contacts to hide her eyes. But I've seen what she really looks like because she's herself in zombie class. Where no one can see her. But the moment she's above ground with other humans she looks like another zombie and her zombie family gave her a chance they gave her their love. Something we should've done!
She was really hoping to meet you both, to hope that you would give her a chance and get to know her, and hope you would take her home and we would be one big happy family worried that her zombie family would ever give her up no matter how much her zombie family really actually loves her but she doesn't believe it because her birth family didn't love her and she doesn't have any reason to believe in love and you did that to her. From the day she was born.
You didn't give me up! You helped me blend in, how come you couldn't had just hid her real appearance instead of her existence?! At that last sentence she runs upstairs to her room and slams the door behind her.
