River had moved into his new house three days ago. He hadn't yet ventured to the school, his parents giving him some time to settle in to his new surroundings. From what he could tell, this was a pretty boring neighborhood, lots of old folks and young children. Not many around his age. There was one how ever, but he wouldn't even give him the time of day. River would call a greeting to the blonde boy, but all he was met with was silence. He could see the self harm scars prominently on his arms, accompanied by many bruises and other scars. River didn't pay much mind, the boy would come around, or he would make other friends.

After two more days, River finally was forced into the public school. He noticed the boy there, at one point trying to approach him. However, he was stopped by two boys. One was fairly tall and skinny, with bleached white hair while the other had dark brown hair and was more muscular.
"You don't wanna screw with that kid," the dark haired boy muttered as he placed a hand on River's shoulder. River shrugged him off, urgently trying to find him again. He was gone.
"I'm Ryder," the white haired introduced himself. When the darker haired boy stayed quiet, he rolled his eyes.
"And that's Asher," he growled, causing the other boy to jump. Asher gave a small smile and glanced around again. Ryder looked back at River, then around the halls.
"Let's go to lunch. I'll tell you a little more about that boy." Ryder offered and began to walk. Asher followed a suit and checked to make sure that River followed. After casting a last glance around the halls, he slowly followed the pair.

"How was school sweetie?" River's mom greeted him with the same sentence she did everyday.
"Fine," he muttered, rummaging through their cupboards in search of a meal.
"Did you make any friends?" his father spoke up, glancing over the top of the laptop he was furiously typing away on.
"Yeah, two. Ryder and Asher." he replied, quickly shoving some pringles into his mouth. His mother smiled and his father nodded approvingly. River finished off the pringles and walked outside, towards the neighbor's house. He wanted an answer about this illusive blonde haired kid. Ryder and Asher kept trying to explain to him that he was dangerous, but it didn't help River's burning curiosity about him. He gave a small knock the wood door, and after waiting for a minute or so, knocked again. The door whipped opened to reveal the boy he had been trying to find. River opened his mouth to speak but was cut off the boy.
"Leave me alone. It's not safe for you," he growled before slamming the door. River stood there, taking in the boy's appearance. His hair was dirty, nose bleeding and lips and cheeks swollen. There were new bruises on his arms and he looks weak and malnourished. Slowly, he turned around but paused at the edge of the property. He would never forget the sounds he heard in there. The painful shriek of a boy, a loud slap, and the piercing sound of electricity buzzing. Finally, it was the back door slamming, and the neighborhood was silent again.
