Never Get a Break

Ashley got to the station early as normal, however was stopped by Trudy.

"Rhodes, I want you with Burgess and Roman today." Tudy told her.
"Did Voight agree?" She asked.
"Yes, they're doing paperwork and since your done, you get to help them out." Trudy explained.
"Dont have to get into uniform, do I?" She asked.
"You can stay out of uniform." Trudy smiled.

After a bit, Sean and Kim arrived, grabbing their car keys.

"Rhodes is going with you today, take it as a bit of a test." Trudy explained.
"Right, come on them, Ashley." Kim smiled.

They headed out to the car and she sat in the back.
"Treat me like any of your co-workers." Ashley smiled, sorting out her badge and gun.

They sat in silence for quite some time. They were checking things but it was soon Lunch.

"Why dont we stop at a resteraunt?" Sean suggested.
"Sounds good." Ashley nodded.

They found a lunch place. Getting something quick to eat before sitting down together.
Ashley sat on her phone doing her emails while she ate. Kim and Sean seemed to chat.

They finished their food before heading outside. They heard a gunshot.

"Follow it!" She yelled, running after where she found the gunshot. Ashley grabbed out her gun while running. She was the only one out of the trio without a vest so she had to be careful.

"He went that way!" A voice yelled.
They followed where the person pointed. It was an abandoned building.
"Call it in." She told them.

Kim simply did so before ending it with. "Be aware there is a plain clothes cop with us." As soon as Ashley heard that, she finally went inside.

She went around in search however saw a toddler sat rather close to a gun. Clearly the child had been abandoned by the shooter.

"Hey sweetheart." Ashley smiled, opening her arms for a hug by the kid. She handed the suspects gun to Sean before picking up the little boy.

The kid seemed scared but cuddled up to her either way. She then headed outside. An officer tried to take the little boy from her, however as the kid cried more. They stopped trying.

Ashley sat on the floor with the Little boy still gripping onto her. Soon however, people soon appeared. This included Jay who instantly walked over. The rest of the group talked to the cops on scene. Before walking with Jay to her.

"What do we know?" Voight asked.
"Tatton Nye. Age 3. Male. He was left with the knife, which has been taken for prints. We've tried giving him to the paramedic, but he won't let go of me." Ashley explained.
"He trusts you. Keep it this way. You can get some stuff out of him." Alvin spoke.

"I'll drive with Jay to the station." Ashley sighed.

She went to his car as Jay got ready to drive. She sat in the back with the boy. Holding his hand since he wouldn't sit there peacefully if not.

They soon arrived. She got out with him.
"Mind if Jay holds you?" Ashley asked. The boy nodded and Jay gladly picked up the boy.

Tatton didn't stop his eyes from staying on Ashley. But as they went on the stairs. His head went onto Jay's shoulder.

When they got into the station office. Ashley put Tatton for a nap on the sofa in the break room. The door slightly open in case.

Ashley sat making plenty of notes about the situation. Mainly about what she could find about Tatton's family.
