I glanced up at him, shocked and not expecting run into him at what was, quite possibly, one of the lowest and most vulnerable moments of my life.
"Its freezing out here," He called, "Do you wanna get in the car? We can get out of the rain, figure out where you wanna go, if that's what you want."
I slowly nodded, standing up from the curb and making my way over to his car. I opened the passenger door, now finally being close enough to see that it was a van, before climbing inside and shutting the door behind me. I was shivering as Eddie climbed into the driver's seat again, turning around and rifling through the back.
"Here," He said, pulling a flannel shirt out of the back of the van, "I think this is one of my friend's, but I don't think he'll mind. I don't really care if he does, to be honest."
I took it, pulling it on and wrapping it around myself, trying to rub some of the warmth back into my arms.
"What the heck are you doing out here?" He questioned. "Its raining, its freaking November, and some kid just went missing, and here you are sitting on the street at 11:00 at night?!"
"I um..." I trailed off, squeezing my eyes shut at the idea of trying to vocalize what had just happened.
"Its ok," He said, drawing my gaze back to him, "You don't have to tell me, just...look, you got anywhere you want me to take you? You want me to drive you home, or-"
"No!" I exclaimed, much more desperately than I had intended. He furrowed his eyebrows at me and I settled back in my seat, pulling the flannel tighter around me. "No, uh...I don't...I don't want to go home right now."
"Ok...anywhere else? You ot some cheerleader friend or...family member's place I can take you to?" I bit my lip, averting my eyes to my lap.
"No, I don't...I don't have anywhere to go." I admitted. He nodded.
"Its ok, you know," He said, "Its cool uh...look, this whole situation is kind of like...unprecedented for me, so I'm just gonna need you to like...make a decision. What do you want to do just...come up with a plan, let me know and we'll do it, ok?" I nodded, pondering this.
"Ii don't know," I said, hesitantly glancing up at him, "Where...where were you headed?"
He looked at me as if this was the craziest question he had ever heard.
"Home," He replied, "I was headed back to my place but...I highly doubt you want to go there. I mean, I live in the trailer park-"
"That sounds perfect, actually," I interrupted, "Is that ok? Can we go there? Just for a little while, until I can come up with a plan or-"
"Yeah, yeah, that's cool, if that's what you want," He agreed, "But just...keep in mind that you asked to come with me in case any police officers come around asking why the freaky Heavy Metal kid has the Hawkins High Head Cheerleader in his van." He put the van into drive, taking off down the road again.
"I'm not head cheerleader," I corrected, "I'm only a Junior. The Head Cheerleader is usually a Senior." he shrugged.
"Same thing." He smiled, and there was something about it that made it nearly impossible for me not to smile back, even in spite of the situation. "Alright let's go...just...remember what I said. Its probably not the kind of place that you're used to." I nodded.
That's what I'm counting on, actually.

The rest of the ride back to the trailer park was spent in total silence...but surprisingly it wasn't uncomfortable. It was still pouring rain by the time he pulled through the front gate of the trailer park and came to a stop in front of one of them.
