Story 1 - The Evil Fairy

Part 5 - A Lost Domino

The whole wait in line, as other witches placed kind blessing on the child before her, Mal tried to think of a way out. How could she stop this poor child from suffering such a fate? It was cruel, wasn’t it? It was cruel to expect the poor girl to overcome what she was being faced with alone. And no one would ever really be able to help her. What a terrible fate.

Mal closed her eyes and sought an answer. Visions never came without reason and this one couldn't possibly have been a friendly pop-in. Not a ‘hello, the weather will be like this tomorrow and I just thought you might want to know that Briar Rose’s life is going to be suck forever’ kind of vision. No. This was the type of vision that was meant as a ‘hello, wake up’ slap, a ‘it’s time to get up, hello, anyone there?’ type of vision.

This was the kind of vision that people hoped their entire lives to not receive. The one that held the balance of a nation, a world, all in one small act that would trigger a series of events that would change something. Something big. One small action to change a lot of important things. And the world's balance would shift and all the peoples of the world would have to find a way to adjust to it if they were to survive.

*They don't have dominos in this world, but as I'm sure you've noticed, being as smart as you are, that this is the domino effect and had they dominos there, I am sure that she would have talked about how this was a perfect example of said effect. However, since they did not, she did not know the domino effect existed to talk about, so she didn't.

Mal was trying desperately to prevent anything bad of that nature from happening. How could she change the princess’ fate, ensure her happiness and love without causing something monstrously horrific to happen? Then the perfect idea hit her (or at least the only idea she had that wasn't totally crazy and didn’t required some grand gesture or object she didn't have, or the support of a gazillion other fairies.). She knew how to save the day, how to prevent what needed to be prevented and save what needed to be saved. And it was so simple. How had she missed it before?

Sorry it's so short. It fit better to cut it here. And who said a little cliff hanger isn't good for the soul? ;)
