*the story is in 3rd POV*
Meredith Grey finally lives a good life. How long has she waited to be able to say such a thing? The entirety of her life really.
But right now things were amazing. She was working as an intern at a hospital where her mom is a legend, she was great friends with the people in her intern class, and most of all she had this amazing boyfriend.
McDreamy.
Derek Shepherd was an absolute dream. She had met him at a bar and had a one-night stand with him, not knowing that he would be her attending. But after a bit of a cat and mouse chase, the two were dating now and happier than ever.
Meredith had life rough growing and she fought tooth and nail to get what she had. And living up to this family legacy had been everything but simple. She still gets a bit bothered by that but it didn't matter. She had been waiting for this happiness her entire life and now that it was here, she didn't want it to go away anymore.
Heels clicking were heard from a short distance.
The energy changed all so suddenly. Like a dark cloud moving in. Only Meredith had not seen it yet. It was only once she looked at Derek's face that she realized something was happening. His smile had turned into an expression of shock and confusion. He then looked Meredith straight in the eyes.
"Meredith, I am so sorry"
Meredith had no time at all to be confused. She turned her head and that was the first time she saw her. The first thing the blonde noticed about this woman was her height. She was several inches taller than Mer. She also had beautiful red hair and blue eyes. Derek lets out a sigh, seeming almost amused by the situation.
"Addison, what are you doing here?" he says in a completely deadpan but calm voice. She raises an eyebrow"Well, you would know if you bothered to return anyone of my phone calls" The redhead finally looks at Meredith, who she had blatantly ignored up until now. She gives her a warm smile and the blonde can't tell if it's genuine or not. "Hi, I'm Addison Shepherd"
Meredith remembers Derek mentioning he had sisters, multiple of them actually. But something told Meredith that this couldn't be one of them. Their banter seemed a little too hostile to be sibling-like. And they had absolutely no resemblance. So there was only one option left, one Meredith feared and very much hoped wasn't true. So she dared asking"... Shepherd?"
"And you must be the woman who's been screwing my husband?"
And that sentence felt like a brick thrown in Meredith's face, she should've known. She should've expected that this seemed way too much like a fairytale for it to be true. As if her prince charming would just magically show up as Derek did, she was totally kidding herself. That cloud she was on, dissipated and she quickly hit the ground. The intern had absolutely no idea what to say, what was she supposed to say to her boyfriend's wife? But of course, she had to say something.
''uh-yeah I-I am I guess? uh-i gotta go. Like right now" Derek tries to talk to her"Meredith-" But the blonde pretends not to hear him as she walks away. Right now she had one thing in mind and one thing only.
She needed a drink. Or most likely many.

After the departure of the younger woman, Derek turns to her "Are you happy now?" The redhead scoffed, having zero remorse for the little scene she had just created.
"What? For having the honesty and decency that you didn't have to tell her you're married? I'm sorry, but no I don't regret that"He was fuming and Addison knew it. And deep down, she enjoyed it.
Even if she wanted to hate that girl, she knew it wasn't her fault. She had just happened to fall for him, that's all she did. And Addie couldn't blame her. She even felt quite bad for her. But never was she going to say that out loud "Anyways I'm not here for you, I'm here for work so don't let your ego get too big" She then turns around and walks away. Of course, a part of her was here for him. They had been married for so long, that she couldn't let him go as easily as one would think. And she wouldn't. She will put up a fight to fix her mistakes. To make it right.

Meredith went straight to Joe's. Not only for insane amounts of alcohol(she wished to forget what had just happened) but she knew that's where George and Cristina were. And she could really talk to them about this, especially Cristina. They were sitting at the bar, as per usual.
"Derek's married" she says dryly. George spits out his drink while Cristina just turns her head slowly towards the blonde, who she found incredibly calm for the bombshell that had just hit her life. "Sounds like you need a drink. Joe, can we get a few shots of tequila over here?"Cristina replies. The bartender nods, preparing the drinks.
A good amount of shots later, Meredith wasn't feeling much better" I can never ever compete with her, that stupidly tall and pretty surgeon" Cristina nods"honestly I wouldn't even consider talking to him again"
Meredith remained quiet for a few seconds."You know what? Maybe I should dump him. So he can go off and be with his stupidly gorgeous wife"
"You make her sound like she's a goddess" Cristina laughs. The blonde looks over at her" You haven't seen her Cristina, she's like eight feet tall, has beautiful eyes and features I mean I look like a rag next to her. Ughhh I wish I was her" the blonde lets out before laying her head on the counter. Cristina just rubs her back, hoping that her friend would eventually get a grip on her reality. She knew very well that Mer was head over heels for Derek, and that it wouldn't be easy. But there was nothing she could do, other than being there for her friend.
Cristina brought Meredith home soon after and left her with Advils and water on her nightstand. Meredith was in her bed, staring at the ceiling. And she was very obviously drunk.
But that didn't stop her from feeling this emptiness in her heart.
