Lisa fiddled with her leather jacket, feeling on the brink of breaking into a sweat. It didn't help that Jennie was looking like an actual goddess across from her in a long flowy skirt and sweater. She was perusing the menu, and Lisa was on the edge of a breakdown.

Ten minutes at the table, and Lisa couldn't even remember what she'd ordered off the menu. She wasn't even doing a great job of talking, and she could tell based on the furrow between Jennie's eyebrows that she was confusing the woman across from her.

"Is this a date?" Lisa blurted out finally, her eyes widening when the words left her lips.

Jennie silently appraised the woman in front of her for an agonizing couple of seconds.

"Never mind," Lisa mumbled, reaching out to fiddle with her silverware.

"No! No, sorry I just-" Jennie let out a long sigh and shook her head, tousling her curls as an embarrassed smile made its way onto her face. "I've been asking you out on dates for like two weeks."

"Wait... really?" Lisa asked, a relieved chuckle slipping from her mouth.

"Yes, and I was so confused because you seemed like you-but then you kept turning me down and this was my last ditch effort. My last try," Jennie admitted with a matching huff of laughter.

"No, I was... God, I'm glad you asked. I was trying to buck up the courage," Lisa admitted, shyly moving her hand to the middle of the table.

"I'm glad I had it for the both of us then," Jennie hummed, meeting Lisa in the middle and sliding her hand on top of Lisa's, marveling at the fated feel of the shared touch.

"Sorry I accidentally turned you down. If I'd known those were date invites, I would never have accidentally dodged them," Lisa promised.

"It's okay. I'm very determined, and you're worth the effort," Jennie replied with a radiant smile.

"I have no idea how that's possible," Lisa murmured.

With a glint of that same determination in her green eyes, Jennie reached out with her other hand and flipped Lisa's hand over on the table, starting to trace her pointer finger across Lisa's palm. Jennie's gaze followed her movements as a light blush filled her cheeks.

"When I was little, maybe six or seven, I couldn't sleep so I came downstairs to get some water. I walked into the kitchen and found my parents slow dancing around the kitchen to no music, completely lost in each other's eyes. I remember asking my mom about it later, what song they were dancing to since I couldn't hear it. What she told me is something I've never forgotten," Jennie said softly and slowly, completely captivating Lisa's attention with her words and her gentle touch. "She said, 'We are the music.' I didn't really understand it at seven but... I think I'm starting to, and I didn't want the chance to dance pass me by, I guess. That is worth all the effort in the world."

With a soft clear of her throat, Jennie finally looked back up at Lisa, her blush even deeper now as she pulled one of her hands away, leaving their clasped hands on the table.

"Which is something far too deep and revealing to say on a first date," Jennie chuckled. "Sorry."

"I like deep and revealing," Lisa replied softly, squeezing Jennie's hand in her own. "And I really like slow dancing."

"In that case, what are you doing tomorrow?" Jennie asked with a smile. It didn't matter that their food wasn't there and the date wasn't over. She already wanted another one.

"I think tomorrow, I'm taking you on a date," Lisa answered with a lopsided smile.

"I think I'd love that."
