Claim My Heart
Chapter 6 Part 2
“She isn’t human.”
“But look at her she’s got to be. Her father is human, it isn’t possible for to be anything but human.”
“Humans don’t cause an aneurism with their mind, Stefan. Only a witch can do that.”
“But wouldn’t she know if she was? Someone would have told her.”
I awoke to people whispering around me. I was laying on something soft which I assumed was a couch. Someone was stroking my hair gently. I lay still and continued to listen to the Salvatore’s conversation.
“Not if there was no one there to tell her.”
I shifted slightly and everything went quiet. Bored of the silence, I opened my eyes to find everyone looking at me again and Jeremy stroking my hair.
“Last time I checked I wasn’t a dog. That’s Tyler’s job.” I joked.
And just like that the awkward tension was broken as everyone laughed. Even Tyler let out a chuckle whilst rolling his eyes.
“I’m sorry, Damon.” I told him once everyone had calmed down.
He narrowed his eyes.
“Do that again and I won’t hesitate to snap your neck.”
I nodded and he went to leave the room.
“Damon?”
He turned to look at me.
“Thank you.”
“What for?” He looked at me in confusion.
“For finding my birth certificate for me. For finally giving me another name other than brat.” I smiled.
“How do you know that it’s me who did it?”
“I know.”
He gave me one last unreadable look before leaving.
Everyone looked at me curiously but I pretended not to notice. Instead I thought back to the conversation that the Salvatore’s had been having. Was it possible that I wasn’t a human, that I was a witch? But I couldn’t be, could I? I was sure that my father was a human, Stefan had even confirmed it, but my mother…
“I’m going to get some air.” I told everyone abruptly.
“Nikki…” Stefan sounded unsure.
“It’s okay, Stefan. I’ll be fine and I promise to come back.” I smiled.
Heading outside, I had every intention of climbing the tree from before and staring at the sky for a couple of hours to clear my head. However my body thought differently as I found myself walking further and further away from the boarding house. I tried to force my body to stop, to turn around and go back to the safety that the boarding house offered. But I couldn’t. with everything within me I tried to make myself stop again and again. Nothing worked, despite my wishes my body kept moving towards an unknown destination as if controlled by someone else. The feeling was so surreal and I was forced to sit back and watch as I carried on walking forwards. One face kept circling my mind along with small parts of old memories from long ago as I kept walking.
I couldn’t really make out what was happening in these memories, they were just broken pictures, small pieces of memories. I saw eyes, green eyes with oval pupils, eyes of a cat. They seemed to stare straight into my soul with familiarity. It was as if this cat knew me. The picture became broken again and then the angle of the picture changed. This cat was no domestic cat. It was huge, a beast with dark fur dotted with even darker rosettes. It was so beautiful, deadly, but beautiful.
And then I saw him, the man from the grill. Niklaus. He was related to all of this somehow. He knew what I was, he could help me. Suddenly I knew exactly where I was going. Who I was going to. From the moment I saw him I had felt familiarity although I knew that I had never seen this man before. But if I didn’t know him then that must mean that she did. The familiarity I felt wasn’t my own, it belonged to the voice that I could hear in my head. And if she knew him then he had to know who she was, surely. I could be cured of whatever curse this was and I could go back to living normally instead of being plagued with dreams from the past.
But first I had to get there. Luckily, the thing controlling my body seemed to know exactly where to go. The voice in my head kept urging me on and I secretly worried for my sanity. Was it wise to follow a voice in my head, especially when the voice isn’t supposed to be there in the first place?
I was broken from my thoughts when I saw that I had arrived at a huge house. No, the word house didn’t do it justice, in fact it was a mansion. There were three floors from what I could see and it was so amazingly beautiful that it seemed to come straight from a fairy tale story in a book. I was too stunned with awe to move for a moment but the effect soon wore off and I found my body involuntarily moving towards the large home.
I walked up to the door, growing uncertain about whether I should be doing this. I rang the doorbell and grew more and more nervous as I waited for someone to come to the door. Finally it opened showing me the person I had been hoping to see.
“I need your help.”
