Claim My Heart
Chapter 5
It’s dark, the sky is an inky black and there is only the dim moonlight allowing me to see anything. As things become clearer around me, I am able to feel the cold of the night and the slight breeze that ruffles my hair. All I know is that I’m out in the open and the feeling of panic is thick in the air.
“We have to get to the church. They’re waiting.” The voice brings my gaze to a scene not too far away from me.
I wouldn’t be able to see the small group of men gathered around an old fashioned looking carriage if it weren’t for the lanterns they held in their hands. But in this case I was able to make out the shape and slight features of these people from the soft glow. It was quite obvious now that I was having another one of my dreams, I just wondered where Katherine or the Salvatore’s were. As if to answer my question, Stefan suddenly spoke.
“Circle around that way. I’ll distract them. Go.” His frantic voice from beside me startled me as he spoke to his brother next to him.
As Damon silently left to do as he was told, Stefan stood up and yelled out to the men.
“Over here! There’s another one! Quick! Help me!”
“Arm yourselves.” The man, who was clearly in charge of the small party of men, said and they followed Stefan, leaving only one man to guard the carriage.
I stepped closer to the said carriage and watched as Damon knocked the guy out and stole his keys. I was so confused. What was going on here? Who was in the carriage? And why? Nothing seemed to make sense.
Stefan returned as Damon used the stolen key to unlock the carriage.
“We don’t have long.” Stefan warned his older sibling.
“Katherine. Katherine.” Damon says as they both lift her from the carriage.
Well at least that was one question answered. Katherine was in the carriage.
Both brothers set about untying her and getting off the muzzle that covered her mouth.
“We’re going to get you out of here.” Stefan comforted Katherine as Damon continued working on the knots that restrained her.
“Damon, hurry. Hurry.” Stefan was beginning to worry now.
However their worries were in vain as a bang exploded in the night and Damon fell to the ground, shot. I gasped in shock and my eyes began to water.
“No! No, Damon.”
Stefan was on his knees beside his dead brother but as he heard the other men returning he grabbed the gun that the unconscious guard had and his eyes blazed with as anger I had yet to see from him. Before he could act, another shot rang out and Stefan slumped down beside his brother.
I dropped down next to the brothers with wide eyes blurred with tears. This time I welcome that blackness that enclosed around me.
I shot up in bed. My breathing was faster than normal and I was covered in sweat. Tears streamed down my face as the image of both Salvatore’s lay dead on the cold ground remained a clear picture in my mind. Needing to get rid of the scene I had just witnessed, I got out of bed and headed to the bathroom.
