Elle's face was bright and filled with excitement as she saw me waiting for her. She took off running, leaving Mike and Dustin behind as she charged me. She lunged into my awaiting arms, and laughed. "School is good." she said brightly.

Mike and Dustin reached us, followed closely by Will and Lucas and a bright red haired girl with a skateboard. "Yeah? You had a good day?" I laughed as she stepped back from me. She nodded big, but I could see that Mike's chin was busted open.

"What happened?" I questioned knowingly. He shook his head fast, "I fell in gym." he shrugged. My eyes swept the lot, and I could see the two bullies who pestered this group from time to time, stealing money from a small kid with glasses.

"Elle hang out here for a minute, I'll be right back."

I made my way forward, Mike shouting after me to stop, but I was long gone. I grabbed the money from the kids' hand and gave it back to the small kid with glasses. He thankfully took it and sprinted off in the opposite direction.

"Hey bitch!" he screamed. I grabbed the back of his collar, and hoisted him up high so he could be eye level with me. His friends stepped back shocked. "If I so much as hear you bullying another kid, I will end you. Understand?"

"You can't do anything to me." he sneered back, but his tone was faltering, he was unsure.

"Oh no?" I started smiling wide now, "My dad is the chief of police, you don't think I know how to get rid of a body without being caught? Or even know of a million different ways to torture somebody?" my tone was low, confident.

He began to sob, so I put him back on his feet. "Go." I barked, watching as the group of boys took off towards the playground. "The Chief's daughter is crazy!" he wailed, but not daring to turn back or slow down.

I laughed, walking back to the group of 8th graders who were smiling brightly at me. "You rock!" Mike hugged me tightly. They began laughing and joking about the scenario over and over. Nancy and Jonathan finally exited the school, and grabbed their siblings.

"Oh yeah!" Dustin shouted brightly at me, "Sadie, this is Max. She's new this year and new to our group."

She gave a small wave, and looked down at her skateboard. "She's my new friend too." Elle said, "my first girlfriend."

I laughed, and Max looked up embarrassed, "Girl who is a friend." she clarified. I nodded, "that's great. Max, do you want a ride?" I offered.
She shook her head, "Nah, my step brother will take me home." she pointed at the Camaro. That's when I took note of the vehicle next to mine, and felt my insides grow cold. Billy Hargrove was mouth to mouth with a curly haired girl from my Chemistry class. It looked like he was sucking the literal soul from her body.

"Yuck." Max said disgustedly. "Are you sure you don't want a ride?" I offered again?

She looked desperately at me, and then finally nodded. "Yeah, what the hell." she jumped into the backseat of my beetle with Elle. They giggled and began looking at a Teen Cosmo that Max had pulled from her bag.

I kept my eyes on my car as I opened the drivers' door and got in. A horn blared next to me, and the car window unfortunately rolled down. "Hey! Hopper, where you taking my sister?" Billy shouted, followed by giggles from the girl in his passenger seat.

"I'll take her home, noone should have to be tortured watching...THAT. You two carry on." I motioned towards them, and slammed my door closed before peeling out of the parking lot. Max gave me her address, and I rolled the windows down blasting Def Leppard. Max and I belted the words to Photograph, with Elle smiling brightly trying to learn the lyrics.

I pulled into the driveway as the song finished. I turned the volume back down, and hopped out to let Max out of the back seat. Elle hugged her tightly, "See you tomorrow." she beamed. Max smiled, and thanked me for the ride. She had just entered the front door when the loud roar of the Camaro sounded down the street.
