(Nightmare)-Talking (Dream)-Talking (Dream)-Thinking

I wake up slowly, feeling warm and safe in a hug, then it all comes rushing back. I looked up slowly from the chest I was tucked in. Nightmare seems to still be asleep. I slowly get up away from Nightmare and lean against mom as I gaze around.

I let my mind wander. 'So if I remember right, I was fighting my brother, he stabs me from behind, and then the au collapses. Then darkness, a nice voice, a warm presence, then there was Mom. Wow, Mom I wasn't able to remember Mom's voice the first time around, me and Nightmare weren't conscious enough to remember it fully; it was always blurred. We knew are names and our jobs, but nothing else.'

I teared up a bit 'Mom, so that's what happened to you, thank you for looking out for me and Nightmare.'

"Um, are you okay?"

My head snaps to Nightmare. I see his lavender eyelights full of concern; his body language screaming nervousness as he looks like he is holding back from touching me.

"Y-Yeah, just a bit overwhelmed"

"So your name is Dream, right; and what are you overwhelmed about?"

"Oh yeah my name is Dream. Sorry for seeming so down... It's just what Mom said that got me slightly scared."

'I hope he believes me. I don't want to just say, ''Hey, yeah, you killed me and now I am in the past and processing the ramifications of me coming back!' 'that would just make him freak out. We were literally just made'

"Wait, so you remember Mom's words, can you tell me what she said! I can only remember your name and my name and our duty!" Nightmare was practically vibrating with excitement. But then he completely deflated and had a look of disappointment

"What did mom say that made you so scared and sad?"

"Mom says that we should be careful of others because she was killed by people after the apples." Nightmares eye sockets widened; he sprang forward and hugged me and brought me into his chest. I absolutely break down as Nightmare's hugs always felt safe. My fear and mixed together feelings for the future bubble to the surface that I can't suppress.

"I'm scared I'm going to lose you 'Again' o-or die! I don't want that Nighty!" Nightmare was rubbing my back; he paused at the nickname then continued.

"Don't worry I got you Dream, you aren't in this alone, we'll figure this out"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, we are together and we were made together so we stay together; we do have the duty to protect the tree after all."

I just hugged him and balled my eyes out. The scent of lavender and apples and comforting aura helped bring me down from my emotional turmoil. When my balling wore down to sniffles and I could finally think again, I felt heat rise to my cheeks. I start glowing a bright yellow.

"I am so sorry I did that, a-and if you don't want to be called Nighty I won't call you it again" I said embarrass and horrified at my response to the hug.' Stars I am more than 500 years old and I just broke down. I thought I had a better handle on my emotions.'

Nightmare bursts out laughing. My face turns into a pout "W-what are you laughing at!" "Pffff sorry, sorry, it's just you look so cute when embarrassed and you made a face that looks all scrunched up. It's just funny because you were all serious!" I playfully swat his head "H-Heyyyy, no, okay, okay, I'll stop" I let out a little giggle "Okay so what do you wanna do?" "Hmmm why don't we just explore what's in the area around the tree." 'So I can see where people can attack'

Just below the tree was a small clearing full of flowers. I hear a soft thump from behind me. My head snaps back my thoughts running though the worst case scenario. What I see is Nightmare flopped down on flowers smiling a bright and happy smile.

"Hey! Dream let's play with the flowers!"

"Okay!!"

'That's research we can do later for now let's do what makes Nighty happy. I am going to do whatever it takes for him to continue to have that bright smile.'
